Dave Fisher for Mayor

Dave Fisher for Mayor Woonsocket needs a change in direction and new leadership. I believe I can provide that leadership. If you think so too, like and share this page.

As Woonsocket's Mayor, I will work to make our city government more responsive, economical and efficient. I will be the vocal advocate at the state level that Woonsocket deserves by working to change state laws that place undue burdens on our community. I will work tirelessly to accelerate and increase Woonsocket's state funding to proper levels.

CVS: The picture of corporate citizenship....

CVS Health has agreed to pay $450,000 to the federal government to settle allegations that several of its Rhode Island retail pharmacies filled forged and invalid painkiller prescriptions. As in previous cases, CVS admits no guilt to any criminal wrongdoing.

I don't use this page often, but we need as many people to show up at this event as possible. This Thursday July 16, 7-8:30 pm. Be at the Woonsocket Harris Public Library to voice your support or opposition to the proposed move of the PawSox to Providence. If I was a betting man, I'd say the opposition will outnumber the supporters 100-1!

Supporters,

I don't use this page often because it seems wrong to use it for anything other than a campaign for mayor, but I need some feedback on this.

We all know that Woonsocket is far above the minimum mandatory affordable housing guidelines. We all know that Woonsocket is in desperate need of economic activity.

We now have a proposal to renovate the old Mulvey's Hardware into an entrepreneurial engine including a food business incubator, a 400 person capacity function room for the Museum of Work and Culture, and a renovated outdoor area to host artist fairs and farmers markets. The second floor would be 6 loft-style affordable apartments. The building would be owned by a non-profit.

That nonprofit applied for - and won - a $350,000 grant that they used to leverage other funds. The city is failing to disburse those funds, and if the funds aren't in the right hands by the deadline, they are forfeit back to the federal government.

The conundrum is: Do we say no to more affordable housing at the expense of economic development?

The city is on the verge of losing a chance for real economic development at the former Mulvey's Hardware Building, Fisher writes.

Today on RI Future, I ask, "Should Rhode Island have a unicameral legislature?" - Dave

The prospect of a Constitutional Convention in Rhode Island is among the most prescient and hotly debated issues in Rhode Island politics today. Detractors of a Con-Con worry that the influence of monied special interests would essentially buy their way into a... -con

Woonsocket peeps! RI Supreme Court has denied adequate funding for our schools. They rightfully claim that it is a legislative issue. Call your Rep. and Senator to demand a constitutional right to a quality education. Our kids deserve it!

Friday was a sad day for the children of Pawtucket and Woonsocket, and for disadvantaged children across the State, when the Supreme Court decided that Rhode Island’s Constitution does not protect them from receiving an inadequate education. These...

Can the state save Woonsocket? Will they? Will the recent visit by newly elected House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello change anything? Stranger things have happened. Read my take on RI FUTURE.- Dave

Bringing more entrepreneurs into cities is always a smart idea--and a prompt to discuss what's potentially amiss in the world of small-business policy-making.
