Minnesota Republicans held a moment of silence for Derek Chauvin at their state convention on Saturday, six years to the week after he pressed his knee into George Floyd's neck and murdered him on a Minneapolis sidewalk.

It happened minutes after a prayer for "conservative values" and the Pledge of Allegiance.

A delegate named Christopher Rocco made the motion. The convention chair, Republican State Rep. Danny Nadeau, put it to a voice vote. The ayes were loud. The nays were quieter.

More than 2,300 delegates then stood in silence for a man currently serving 22 and a half years in a Texas prison for second-degree murder and federal civil rights violations.

Attorney General Keith Ellison, who personally prosecuted the case, called it "an act of profound cruelty" to the Floyd family. He's right. Obviously.

But the cruelty is the point.

Elon Musk has been pushing Trump to pardon Chauvin. Ben Shapiro wrote an open letter claiming the jury was "pressured" into convicting him. Congressman Tom Emmer defended the moment of silence by calling the convicted murderer "a member of law enforcement" that "patriotic Minnesotans" had come together to peacefully recognize.

State Rep. Jamie Long pointed out the obvious.

The Minnesota GOP did not hold a moment of silence for soldiers killed overseas.

They did not hold one for the children gunned down at Annunciation Catholic School, where two kids died at morning Mass while Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth buried the gun safety bill that followed.

They chose this.

They chose the man who murdered George Floyd over every victim of every tragedy their state has endured.

This is who they are. Believe them.

George Floyd was 46 years old. A father. A son. A brother. A neighbor. A friend.

His daughter Gianna told the world her daddy changed it. He did. And no Republican silence will ever take that away.

BREAKING: Trump launches late-night freakout as he grapples with defeat in Iran, raging against HIS OWN party and the "Dumocrats" as he tries to blame anyone but himself!

It seems Donnie can’t sleep again. Trump went on another unhinged late-night Truth Social rampage at 1:02 a.m., furiously lashing out at everyone but himself for the mess he has created with his three-month-old war against Iran.

The unhinged tirade came as negotiations to end the conflict drags on with little progress since the April ceasefire.

Trump won’t budge from controlling the Strait of Hormuz and destroying Iran’s nuclear program, but he’s now putting the blame closer to home: it’s the “Dumocrats” and even member of his own party for “chirping” and making it harder for him to negotiate.

“But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively ‘chirping,’ at levels never seen before . . .”

But worry not, he adds. Everyone should just “sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end – It always does!”

Maybe not this time. Gas prices continue to creep up as Summer arrives and people want to get out, the Strait of Hormuz remains a problem that didn’t exist the day before Trump started this war, and fresh U.S. strikes just resumed over the weekend, meaning maybe the shooting war isn’t as finished as he might like.

The nearly 80-year-old president is clearly feeling the heat ahead of the midterms as Americans suffer from higher costs at the pump.
Yet instead of focusing on real solutions, he’s returned to his old playbook of name calling and denouncing those around him for failing to execute his perfect plan to make everything wonderful.

He’s patting himself on the back for “inventing” the oh-so-clever-and-original “Dumocrat” moniker, and attacking CNN for accurately covering the war and his attempts at extricating himself from it.

Trump’s not yet addressing portraits of past presidents in the White House like Nixon, but his obvious exhaustion is a good metaphor for where Trumpism is at the moment – can’t move forward or backwards with chaos unfolding around him.

Trump can call them “Dumocrats” all he wants. Sticks and stones.

But when looking for who to blame for the sorry state of affairs we are in, it would serve him well to look in the mirror.
