Please maintain social distancing and wash and/or sanitize hands before and after play to stop the spread of disease.

REMINDER - All City of Wooster Park Playgrounds are currently CLOSED in accordance with the State of Ohio Stay-At-Home orders.

On Sunday, March 22, 2020, Governor Mike DeWine ordered public playgrounds to close to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus and this is still in effect. The City of Wooster has placed CLOSED signs at each of our playgrounds and as soon as the closure is uplifted we will be performing a thorough cleaning and disinfection to all playground equipment in our parks before reopening them.

Don't worry! We will make a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT when we are able to open back up again and safely put the PLAY back into PLAYGROUND! πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ

In addition to our playgrounds, all park restrooms, all sport courts, the Skate Park @ Schellin and Kiddie City @ Knights are closed. Signage indicating these closures has been posted and facilities will be taped off or locked, where possible.

City of Wooster parks remain open for walking and hiking, but if you choose to visit them we ask that you please continue to practice social distancing as outlined by the Wayne County Health Department, the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

For more information, please visit the City's COVID-19 page at https://www.woosteroh.com/news/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Stay safe and stay healthy, Wooster.

Recently, we were asked...
"How did Christmas Run get its name?" πŸŽ„β˜ƒ

Thanks to the amazing folks at the Wayne County Historical Society; Wooster, OH, we have the answer!! πŸ’‘πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ

The creek was named after the Christmas family that were early pioneer residents of Wooster and built the house that once stood on W. Liberty Street where the Wayne Co. Administration building now stands. Many people will remember the old house as Dr. Todd's house, or the Veterans place before it was torn down. Dr. Todd paid homage to the original owners by naming the house "Christmas Knoll" after he bought the house in 1878.

Members of the John Christmas family moved to Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio in 1818 and owned much of the land around that end of W. Liberty Street where they built their house on the knoll above the creek in 1835.

Charles Christmas was appointed Wayne County (Ohio) Surveyor in 1821, and then served three consecutive terms in that position. It is likely that Charles Christmas named the creek after his family while working as the county surveyor. During his residence in Wooster he surveyed a great portion of the present site of the town, and is credited with being the author of the "Old Christmas Map" printed c.1840 of Wayne County, Ohio.
