CUPD is excited to announce the return of the R.A.D. (R**e, Aggression, Defense) program and it kicks off next week! Please note that this program is only open to students, staff and faculty who identify as women or non-binary. A general self-defense program for all will be held at a later date.

What is R.A.D. for Women?

The Cornerstone of R.A.D. systems, R.A.D. for Women, has its foundations in education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Classes range from a minimum of nine to twelve hours in length. The objective of this workshop is to develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so they become viable considerations to a woman who is attacked.

R.A.D is the only existing program with a free lifetime- return and practice policy, honored world-wide. It is the only self-defense program ever supported by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), National Academy of Defense Education, the National Self-Defense Institute (NSDI) and Redman Training Gear.

Attendance is required through all 4 training days.

We are so appreciative of Officer Sullivan and Sergeant Segur from WPD for instructing our department on water rescues and utilizing "Manny Tubes".

Officer Manny Familia was a CUPD officer from 2014-2016 and was a staple in our department and the community. He was well known across campus, students and staff alike, for his big heart, warm smile and contagious laugh.

On June 4th, 2021 while working for WPD, Officer Familia died heroically in the line of duty while selflessly trying to save a teen, Troy Love, who had fallen and begun to drown in Green Hill Pond. Tragically, both lost their lives.

In memory of Officer Manny Familia, yellow "Manny Tubes" are now in every CUPD police cruiser. A big thanks to the The Manny 267 Foundation!

After his death, Officer Familia's family created the Manny 267 Foundation, which is dedicated to preventing more drownings. The non-profit donates Manny Tubes to police departments across the country.

University Police have been receiving multiple reports of personal items that have gone missing from the Athletic Center. Officers will be increasing foot patrols of the building. Please remember to not leave any valuables unattended if not secured. Additionally, please do not prop open any exterior doors, especially emergency exit doors to allow access to non-Clark community members. As always, "if you see something, say something."

About Clark University Police Department (CUPD)

CUPD works to build strong and interactive relationships with the students, faculty and staff we are committed to serving. CUPD is led by Chief Stephen Goulet and includes 10 officers who are empowered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As such, we are authorized, within a limited geographic area, to perform the same duties as Worcester Police. All officers have the authority to wear fi****ms and to make arrests. In addition to on-campus patrols, officers patrol the neighborhood streets where we work together with Worcester Police to protect off-campus students and property. Officers patrol by foot, bike and cruiser 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Officers are certified in CPR and other medical emergency techniques. We also receive specialized training in crisis intervention, diversity sensitivity, victim awareness, sexual assault and domestic violence. There are a total of 2 officers who are certified sexual assault investigators; both of whom are female.
