As EMS Week comes to an end, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible EMTs and paramedics of Worcester EMS. The photos shared today capture just a small glimpse of the dedication, teamwork, humor, compassion, and professionalism our crews bring with them every single day on the streets of Worcester.

A special thank you to the Worcester EMS Relief Association for the cookout, and to Saint Vincent Hospital for the food truck, the EMS Week support, and the chili cook-off — where WEMS teams proudly took home 1st and 3rd place! We are grateful for everything you guys do for our providers not just during EMS Week, but throughout the entire year.

Most importantly, thank you to the crews who continue to show up day and night to serve the City of Worcester. Whether it’s the middle of the night, during major incidents, or on someone’s worst day, our EMTs and paramedics answer the call with skill, heart, and dedication. We are proud of the work you do.

This week, four of our paramedics completed the 46-hour FEMA USAR medical specialist course hosted by Massachusetts Task Force 1 at their headquarters in Beverly. This course is part of a significant effort to start a rescue medic program as part of the District 7 Technical Rescue Team. The paramedics, several from neighboring departments, and a number from other programs around the state, spent a week learning and honing collapse medicine and confined space operations, and they participated in numerous high-fidelity simulations in MA-TF1’s rubble pile, bunker, and many other locations. The climactic simulation last night went long into the darkness and involved dozens of paramedics treating and rescuing dozens of victims.

Congrats on a job well done! We hope you never need to use your new skills, but we’re excited about the new district program on the horizon.

Yesterday, our very own Paramedic Maya Raghavan ran the Boston marathon. Maya ran in support of Umass DMAT team. Many times at Worcester EMS, we find ourselves proud of our employees both inside and out of the ambulance and yesterday was a perfect example of that!
