Genesis Club is work-focused community of hope and dignity where mental health recovery is possible.

Genesis Club opened its doors on September 15, 1988 with 25 members. Twelve months prior, a committed and passionate Board of Directors decided that the city of Worcester should have a free-standing Clubhouse community. This decision was made after a visit to Fountain House in New York City, the first clubhouse model in the country. From a modest beginning, Genesis Club has developed a highly reco

gnized Accredited Clubhouse with Clubhouse International that is an Evidenced Based Practice with the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Genesis Club offers vocational training, education, employment, housing, wellness and social supports to over 550 members each year. Most importantly, Genesis Club offers a community of hope and dignity where recovery is possible. Genesis Club is one of twelve training centers of Clubhouse International. Since that time, the Genesis International Training Center has trained over 300 Clubhouses, 2000 colleagues from 35 states and 16 countries. Genesis Club strives to be a leading community partner with Worcester employers, landlords, families, colleges/universities and health care providers.

Congratulations to each and every Clubhouse member who shared their story of recovery this past week at the annual Pennsylvania Clubhouse Coalition Conference! Our very own Mark Buchanan and John Abbe presented on how to create a more full and engaging work ordered day and how to support members with their educational goals. It was great to be with our colleagues in Pennsylvania. Clubhouse community at its best!

Today we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States and honor those whose labor, courage, and resistance helped shape this country. We are also mindful that the work of expanding justice, voting rights, economic opportunity, and equal treatment under the law is work that is never finished.

Congrats to Maddy, who was recently hired as a Patient Instructor for the Interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning & Simulation (ICELS) at UMASS Chan Medical School. Maddy stated that she is most excited about “helping students become better nurses and doctors, by sharing my background in the medical field and teaching them to treat patients with kindness and empathy”. Maddy is thrilled to be working again after many years out of the workforce, and gives much credit to the support and empowerment from Genesis Club.

This week, in partnership with Alliance House , we hosted a virtual First Year Staff Training with our friends from the all of the Clubhouses in Ireland. Thank you to Cairdeas Clubhouse, Suaimhneas Clubhouse, Saol Clubhouse, Conai Clubhouse, Rainbow Clubhouse, Phoenix Clubhouse, and Platinum Clubhouse for your time and commitment to creating strong, impactful Clubhouse communities! Congratulations to all the members and staff (especially to the first time participants) of Genesis Club who completed the Worcester Firefighters 6k Memorial Race yesterday! Each year the Worcester community comes together to remember the sacrifice and celebrate the legacy of the Worcester Six - the firefighters who lost their lives in the Worcester Cold Storage Fire in December 1999. It was a meaningful day of remembrance, solidarity, and community!

Congratulations to Stephen, Deanna, and Stephen for Graduating in the class of 2026. Stephen (left) and Deanna (middle) graduated from Worcester State University, and Stephen (right) graduated from Quinnsigamond Community College. We are so proud of our members and staff who excelled in their studies and are making their dreams a reality. Friends from the Clubhouse enjoyed attending their graduation ceremonies in person and via zoom. Congratulations, graduates and to all students who completed their semester!
