Worcester Housing Authority Providing Housing, Building Futures We will treat each resident as if he or she were a member of our family. The Admissions Department is NOT open on Fridays.

The WHA is dedicated to providing its families with an environment that will be a source of pride for its residents and an asset to the community at-large. The WHA will seek out opportunities and develop strategies that will assist both its present and future residents in obtaining the necessary educational, training and employment skills necessary to achieve social and economic self-sufficiency.

They will be treated with respect and encouraged to become active participants and partners in our community. In its continuing effort to provide additional affordable housing opportunities to the community, the WHA will actively seek out development opportunities and craft solutions that will serve both the needs of the community and become an asset to the surrounding neighborhoods. Our standard operating hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm weekdays.

🏠🔑 LEASED HOUSING 101: I HAVE A VOUCHER... NOW WHAT? 🔑🏠

Congratulations! 🎉 You've received your housing voucher. Now it's time to begin the journey toward finding your next home.

Finding the right unit can take time, but WHA is here to guide you through the process every step of the way. 💙

📋 Here's how it works:

🏡 Step 1
Search for a unit that matches your voucher size and payment standard.

📄 Step 2
Submit your 30- or 60-day notice to vacate at WHA's 630 Plantation Street office.

📑 Step 3
Receive a Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA) packet and Movers Application from WHA.

✍️ Step 4
You and your prospective landlord complete the RFTA and submit it to WHA.

💼 Step 5
Complete your Movers Application and submit it along with copies of household income and asset documentation.

⏳ Step 6
WHA reviews and processes all paperwork. The landlord must also accept the proposed rent offer.

🔍 Step 7
The unit must pass a Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspection to ensure it is safe and meets HUD requirements.

🎉🏡 Step 8
Move into your new home and begin your next chapter!

WHA was pleased to welcome U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Administrator Michael Banks and his team to WHA Tuesday, June 17.

The visit brought together HUD leadership, local housing authorities, and affordable housing developers for productive discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing housing in our communities.

We appreciate Regional Administrator Banks and the HUD team for their continued partnership and commitment to ensuring safe, affordable housing remains a priority.

Together, we are building stronger communities and creating more opportunities for the residents we serve. 🏡💙

🌈🏳️‍🌈 Our celebration of National LGBTQ+ Pride Month continues! 🏳️‍🌈🌈

This month, we remember the events of June 28, 1969, when a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City's Greenwich Village sparked days of protests and demonstrations.

The Stonewall Uprising became a turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights and inspired what is widely recognized as the world's first Pride march one year later. ✊❤️

Today, Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, honor those who helped pave the way, and reaffirm our commitment to creating communities where everyone feels safe, respected, and welcome. 🏠🤝

🎓🌟 LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE GRADS! 🌟🎓

Please join us in congratulating Aida Rodriguez and Melissa West, two WHA residents who recently earned their GEDs through WHA's partnership with Quinsigamond Community College! 👏📚

And the success doesn't stop there! 🎉 Melissa is already in her first semester at QCC and continuing her educational journey. 🚀

Both graduates earned the opportunity to walk across the stage during QCC's graduation ceremony on June 11, a milestone worth celebrating! 🎓❤️

At WHA, we're about more than housing. Through partnerships with organizations like QCC, we're helping residents achieve their goals, open new doors, and build brighter futures. 🌈🏠

The Worcester City Hoops Basketball Camp is returning this summer, and you do not want your young athlete to miss it!

WHA is proud to partner with Coach Al Pettway, Worcester State University men's basketball coach and a 2-time Division 1 High School State Championship-winning coach, to bring an unforgettable basketball experience to Worcester youth.

🌟🎓 TAKING BIG STRIDES! 🚗💙

WHA resident Melissa L. is proving that hard work, determination, and perseverance can take you anywhere! 🙌

As a participant in WHA's A Better Life (ABL) program, Melissa has been working closely with Family Life Coach Yailene Bonilla to achieve some major milestones:

✅ Earned her driver's license
🚗 Purchased her own vehicle
🎓 Earned her bachelor's degree from Southern New Hampshire University
📚 Currently pursuing a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Merrimack College

Melissa is also building valuable real-world experience as a behavioral technician, helping others while preparing for her ultimate goal of becoming a licensed mental health counselor. ❤️

Every step forward has increased her independence, confidence, and opportunities for success.

Melissa's journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when determination meets opportunity. We are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and can't wait to see what comes next! 🌈✨
