Box 4 Special Services was established in 1921 when a major fire broke out along Main Street in Worcester. The temperature that night was said to be around 10 degrees below zero. A group of residents got together to provide warm drinks and blankets to the firemen due to the extreme cold. The group organized into what would become Box 4, which was the number of the City Hall fire alarm box that ran

g in on that night in 1921. his group continued this service until sometime in the mid-1960’s. Historical research suggests that this service was merged into the Worcester Auxiliary Fire Department before that disbanded as well. Davies Sr. paid the ultimate sacrifice at Box 12-07 at a fire at 44 Arlington St. and died in the line of duty. In the days following his funeral, the sparks of rebirth ignited, and Box 4 Special Services was reorganized in 2012, with the same purpose as before - to serve fire and police by providing the best incident rehab possible.
