Children's Friend, Inc. Our Mission: To improve the lives of children and those who love them by creating, supporting, and strengthening families

In 1849, we opened our doors at Children’s Friend as “The Worcester Children’s Friend Society," a small charity caring for orphaned, abandoned and neglected children. In 1851, our organization helped draft the first modern adoption legislation in the nation – a bill adopted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Later, we became a founding member of the Child Welfare League of America. As needs cha

nged and decades passed, we continued our work advocating for vulnerable children. 1968 Children's Friend helped create the first program for pregnant and parenting teens in Worcester, a program that shortly became a collaboration between our agency and the Worcester Public Schools. This School Age Mothers Program has helped this vulnerable population ever since. In 1981, we became one of the first agencies in the state to be licensed as a child and family mental health clinic. In 2004, we created The Carriage House, the first, and still only, grief support center for children and families in central MA. Today, Children’s Friend is working harder than ever to provide the highest quality services to children and those who love them.

Every Friday, we celebrate the people and partnerships that move our mission forward—and this week was full of powerful moments.

In Worcester, a new pilot program is opening doors for early childhood educators by transforming unused classroom space into a two‑year work space for educators to launch and grow their business. Providers like Minerva Caba Toribio and Eva Fajardo Marroquín are already building vibrant, culturally responsive programs that meet a growing community need.

We also celebrate Echo Louissaint‑Collins, named one of Massachusetts’ 20 Outstanding Women. Her work with 508Cheers continues to uplift young leaders who are shaping a brighter future.

Our GEAR UP students stepped boldly into career readiness through hands‑on workshops and mock interviews with community professionals—gaining confidence and clarity as they prepare for life after graduation.

And in Rhode Island, Kim Keegan was honored with the 2026 Aging Services Award of Excellence for her compassionate leadership in Adult Day Health services.

These stories remind us what’s possible when dedication meets opportunity.
