Keystone Boys State A weeklong camp for rising high school seniors that teaches leadership, government, and civic participation American Legion Keystone Boys State is a one-of-a-kind civic-leadership development program offered by the Pennsylvania American Legion.

High school boys entering their senior year participate in a week-long government simulation, learning about the political process, hearing from guest speakers, engaging in debate and creative team-building, visiting with state legislators and officials at the Capitol in Harrisburg, and much more.

"While citizens are expected to provide their own travel to and from KGS, the Western Section of the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania does have a bus available for citizens attending both Keystone Girls State and Keystone Boys State." The 2019 Bus Information is here! For the actual Word Document that you can download and fill out, go to pagirlsstate.com/apply and scroll down until you see "Travel Information." Thank you to the men and women who have paid the ultimate price defending our country. We can never repay your sacrifice, but we can certainly do more to honor your legacy.

This is why we do what we do. Thank you to PA State Rep. Zach Mako for recognizing the service of the American Legion and for paying it forward for the people of Pennsylvania!

As a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and American Legion Post 899 of Walnutport, I helped commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion with the passing of a House resolution today. The American Legion has been a staunch advocate for veterans and their families since 1919. It was founded on the four pillars of care for veterans, a strong national defense, Americanism, and children and youth.

In the summer of 2006, the American Legion Post 899 sent me to Keystone Boys State, spurring my interest in politics and leading me to my current position.

"The students were assigned positions in either the legislative or executive branches with the election for governor being held later in the week. Parascandola was instrumental in getting legislation passed that established new parkland and policy.

“We had to work with the other side of the aisle to pass the bills,” he said. “It was a lot of fun because I’m a big fan of conservation. I hunt and fish a lot and enjoy spending time in the outdoors.”

Not only did the role of chairman suit Parascandola, the whole Keystone Boys State experience added to his knowledge on leadership and reinforced his desire to serve the country as an Army medical officer."

The great state of Keystone had no patience for partisan politics run amok.

Attended Keystone Boys Camp in 1957. One of the best programs I ever attended. Met some great people, and later in life met a great guy and friend in Donato Savini, who also attended that year. It was located at Lock Haven State Teachers College, Lock Haven, PA. Donato was from Greensburg, Pa, and I was from Renovo, PA.
Luke Capper '20 (Immaculata House), Tommy Chase '20 (Immaculata House), Mathew Hickey '20 (Loyola House), and Sara Richards '20 (De La Salle House) represented Trinity at Keystone Boys State/Keystone Girls State this week at Shippensburg University. All four students were very involved in the program: Luke Capper was in the House of Representatives and the Department of Commerce. Tommy Chase was the Department of Education Party Chairman, Department of Education House Co-Chairman, Department of Education County Chairman, and a member of the honor guard. Matthew Hickey was a member of the Senate, Sergeant-of-Arms for the Federalist Party, and also a member of the honor guard. Sara Richards was the social media coordinator, a member of the House of Representatives and on the Nationalist Rally Committee. Keystone Girls State and Keystone Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. It is a non-partisan Government and Civics program designed to teach the importance of responsible citizenship and to empower young people to make a change in their community. Citizens spent the week at Shippensburg University intensively working together to self-govern the state of "Keystone," meant to model current Pennsylvania's local, county, and state government. Citizens had the opportunity to campaign and run for office, draft and present legislation in the Keystone State House of Representatives and Senate, and to be actively involved in the Judiciary System as modeled by the state of Pennsylvania. Over the course of the week, Keystone State citizens were asked to stray out of their comfort zone and truly challenge themselves to work as a team for the betterment of their city, county, and state. All the students enjoyed their experience very much, and would encourage any rising junior to apply next year.

Pennsylvania American Legion Keystone Boys State is a unique week long summertime educational program that focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its respective state government. The American Legion believes there is no better way to assure the survival of our republic than to train our young people in the ideals and objectives of American Government. Boys State is designed to supplement the information taught in high school civics classes. It is an activity born out of a need for youth training in practical citizenship, leadership and to instill a working knowledge of the structure and operation of government.
We had lots of delegates from Keystone Girls State and Keystone Boys State in the #PACapitol this week! The Keystone programs promote civic leadership and are run by the Pennsylvania American Legion. These young leaders hail from the 87th District! #KGS2019 #KBS2019
This week, Keystone Girls State and Keystone Boys State are here for their week-long civic program in the Commonwealth. The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary run these programs and they provide high school students with a unique opportunity to engage in civics and government by interacting with elected officials at all levels of state government. I was proud to welcome young women & men from our district into my office this week, including an Eagle Scout that I met at a Scouting event recently & one of our future district office interns! I am continued to be filled with hope for the future with these young people soon taking the helm.

I had a great visit today with some high school students who are visiting the Capitol as a part of the Keystone Boys State program, which is Pennsylvania’s premier leadership program for young men! Organized by the American Legion, Keystone Boys State is a week-long summer experience that focuses on civics and leadership development.
