The Doll Museum at the Old Rectory

The Doll Museum at the Old Rectory, in Worthington, OH, features a distinguished collection of 19th & 20th century dolls & toys.

The Doll Museum, which is run by the Worthington Historical Society, features a distinguished collection of 19th and 20th century dolls, toys, a Japanese Hina Matsuri, several dollhouses, and rotating special exhibits. Dolls on display include German chinas, Parian bisques, French fashions, Milliner's models, French bebes, and American dolls including those of makers Ludwig Greiner, Izannah Walker

and Joel Ellis. Admission is $3.00 for a self guided tour. Group tours or special group tours for Girl Scouts or children are also available for $4.00/person. Group tours can be scheduled for weekdays or the weekend.

⭐ Spotlight on an American Icon ⭐
American Icons are being featured this year in recognition of dollmaking in the United States. Raggedy Ann & Andy have been childhood favorites for over a century, beginning with Johnny Gruelle’s 1915 rag‑doll design and the beloved storybooks that followed. Known for their yarn hair, shoe‑button eyes, and signature “I Love You” heart, the dolls were first produced by P. F. Volland and later by makers like Georgene, Knickerbocker, Hasbro, and Aurora World. Many cherished homemade versions also exist, often dressed in outfits inspired by the classic factory-made dolls.

⭐️ Spotlight on an American Icon ⭐

American Icons are being featured this year in recognition of dollmaking in the United States. Among the dolls on display, are examples by Rose O’Neill (pictured here).

Rose O’Neill is the artist behind the whimsical Kewpie doll, who debuted in 1909 in magazine stores such as Ladies’ Home Journal. Patented in 1913, Kewpie branded items even included food and a hood ornament!

With a red paper label, tiny blue wings, sprouting from his shoulders, side-glancing eyes and broad smile, this irresistible chubby bisque figure was widely sold all over the world.

Our American Icons exhibit highlights early American makers like Joel Ellis and Mason & Taylor—with rock maple bodies, sloped shoulders, painted features, and the distinctive 1873 slot‑and‑tendon jointing system. Beautiful craftsmanship, rich history.

Shirley Temple dolls first charmed families in 1934, capturing the movie star’s bright smile and famous 52 curls. Early versions were made of composition and dressed in outfits inspired by her films — including that beloved polka‑dot dress from Baby Take a Bow.

Later vinyl and porcelain editions by Danbury Mint and Ashton‑Drake kept her legacy alive for collectors. Today, Shirley Temple dolls remain timeless symbols of childhood joy.

This sweet Donegal doll by Crolly Dollies brings a touch of Ireland to our shelves. With her painted cloth face, soft body, and green‑and‑black felt outfit topped with a jaunty beret, she’s a festive nod to St. Patrick’s Day. Donated by Barbara Steele.
