"We are excited to share that, on the same day canoes from across Southeast Alaska landed in preparation for Celebration, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 41 on the House floor in Washington, D.C. The Unrecognized Southeast Alaska Native Communities Recognition and Compensation Act, often referred to as the landless legislation, will now move to the U.S. Senate for consideration on the floor."

🦀 CRAB ID TRIVIA TIME! Can you spot the invader? 🕵️‍♂️
Hey neighbors! We are on a mission to protect our local beaches and marine life from the invasive European Green Crab, and we need your expert eyes.

Take a close look at the picture below. One of these is a helpful native species, and the other is an invasive hitchhiker that destroys eelgrass beds and outcompetes our native Dungeness and shore crabs.

Which one is the European Green Crab? Is it Crab A 🅰️ or Crab B 🅱️?

👇 Drop your guess in the comments below! 👇

🔴 PRO-TIP FOR CRAB DETECTIVES: Don't let the name fool you! Green crabs aren't always green. They can be brown, yellow, or even reddish-orange. The real secret to identifying them is in the spines right next to their eyes.

We’ll post the official answer and the easiest trick to spot them tomorrow morning!

Join your elders and friends for Sewing, Beading, Weaving, Celebration videos, Singing, Drumming, and Togetherness at the new downtown WCA Prevention Hub — located across from the Busy Bee Hive on Front Street, next to the old Laundromat.

We're open Monday–Friday, 10AM–4PM at 219 Front St.

UPDATE ON SHAKES ISLAND PRACTICE PLAN:
In lieu of May dancing and drumming at Shakes Island, we're going to let it happen naturally in the Hub during the day — as people show up, make regalia, watch old Celebration videos, and have impromptu practice.

Please come entertain our elders and sewing teachers, who are kindly sewing regalia for kids who need it. They will be happy to critique your dance skills if you tip them. 😄🎉

Perhaps we can percolate a plan for at least one amazing practice at Shakes Island before Celebration — if we can get you to come to the Hub and let us know you want to see that happen!
