Fire conditions are very high today in the Northland and will continue to be dangerous until we get some rain.

Gusty southerly winds and very dry air will combine to support dangerous fire weather conditions today across the Northland. Any fires that start could spread very quickly! Be sure to check with your local authorities for any burning restrictions. Avoid outdoor burning if you can, and if you do spot an out of control fire, be sure to report it to local authorities!

We are in critical fire weather conditions today as the winds pick up and the humidity drops. Please be careful outdoors with any open flames or heat sources.

Critical to near critical fire weather conditions are expected today, especially in the afternoon and early evening. A combination of low humidity and gusty south winds will occur. Fires can spread quickly under conditions like this if fuels are supportive. Check with your local fire officials for any possible burn bans today. The MN DNR has more information at: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/questions.html
The WI DNR has more information at: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/forestfire/permits

As we Spring forward today, please remember to test your smoke detectors and change the batteries.

You turned your clocks forward one hour. But did you change your smoke alarm batteries?

It’s not too late.

Working smoke alarms cut your chances of dying in a fire in half. Change your clocks, change your batteries.

There are several cell towers currently down in the area. AT&T is recommending that cell phone users enable WIFI calling if you are able to. There may be internet outages. Latest repair time is 06-11-2020. We at the Sheriff's Office are recommending using a landline to call in to 911 in an emergency if you are unable to get through on your cell phone.

We are in a red flag warning due to the high winds and low humidity that is coming today. Please be careful and avoid any activity that could start a fire.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected today. West to northwesterly winds from 15-20 mph with gusts to 25-35 mph will combine with warm high temperatures in the 60s and 70s and low relative humidity to create critical fire weather conditions on Saturday across much of the Northland, especially across central Minnesota. Please refrain from burning today!

We will be collecting homemade masks tomorrow from 10-2 at the fire hall. If you are dropping any off, please have them in sealed ziplock type bags.

Donate homemade masks to your local fire station tomorrow, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will deliver them to places in need in your community. https://mn.gov/covid19/for-minnesotans/volunteer/masks.jsp

If you can't make the drop-off, reach out directly to settings in your community to see if they need and will accept homemade masks. You can also contact your county emergency manager. #StayHomeMN #MinneSEWta

FIRE DANGER: Areas to our SW are under a Red Flag Warning until this evening. Low humidity and stronger winds bring prime fire spreading conditions. Be smart and stay safe out there folks!

Help ease the burden on hospitals and clinics during the #COVID-19 outbreak by knowing when to see a doctor. If you have symptoms and can manage them at home, you don't have to seek health care or be tested for COVID-19. If symptoms get worse, call your clinic or nurse line. https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/basics.html

This is why we’re asking people to take protective measures like staying home and avoiding social gatherings. It’s called flattening the curve. It’s all about slowing the spread of COVID-19 so we don’t overwhelm the health care system by having a lot of very ill people all at once. It’s important for all of us to do our part to protect the people in our lives who are at higher risk for serious illness. #StayHomeMN

Most cases of COVID-19 are mild with symptoms like fever and coughing. If you have symptoms and can manage them at home, you don’t need to seek health care or be tested for COVID-19. If your symptoms worsen, call your health care provider before seeking care in-person. This gets you the care you need without putting others at risk of exposure.
