From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

POOL SAFETY. IT ONLY TAKES SECONDS FOR A CHILD TO DROWN!

If you have children, it’s happened to you . One minute, your child was standing right beside you and then….gone. You scan the area nervously, begin calling their name and usually the child is found quickly. Sometimes not so quickly. Sometimes too late.

An estimated 450 to 500 toddlers (children ages 1 to 4) drown fatally each year in the United States. Across all children and teens ages 0 to 19, the total is roughly 900 to 950 per year. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 1 and 4.

Fence your pools, lock the gates, install water sensor alarms. And teach your babies how to swim. Get them into swimming lessons because if all the precautions fail and they fall in, they’ll have a fighting chance.

From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

GAME TODAY SO STAY AWAY!!
MAJOR INFLUX OF WORLD CUP FAN TRAFFIC RIGHT ON TOP OF RUSH HOUR!!

This IS NOT a Saturday night and it IS NOT a night game! Wrentham PD will be blocking the same roads as last time, 4 HOURS BEFORE AND AFTER, but WE expect MUCH HEAVIER TRAFFIC so YOU should expect delays if you drive anywhere near Rt. 1, Rt. 140 towards Foxboro and, of course 495.

We are adding officers to all shifts, day and evening. This will allow us to handle all calls whether related to the game or not.

PLANNING FOR THE WORST, HOPING FOR THE BEST!

From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

REPORT FROM LAST NIGHT….

Congrats to Scotland for their win and now we’re getting ready for this Tuesday’s game! Norway v. Iraq at 6;00 pm.

Last night’s game seemed to go off without a hitch where police incidents and local traffic was concerned. The fans in Foxboro were generally fun and well behaved.

In Wrentham, the impact was minimal. Brief backups on Route 140 as fans made their way to the stadium and expected delays on Rt . 1 as we see for other events throughout the year.

Thanks to our Traffic Control officers who stood watch at road closures, keeping fans on main routes while allowing locals to pass through. And hats off to the shift officers who handled a wide variety of calls for service throughout the evening and into the wee hours.

THE NEXT GAME IS A DIFFERENT CHALLENGE THOUGH!

We’re pleased the road closures, traffic plans and assignment of extra officers on shifts worked out, but that success was on a Saturday evening. The next game is on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., during the work week, smack dab in the middle of rush hour. 😳 So generally, not as many people will have the option to stay home because they work, have appointments and so on.

At this point, all we can say is to COMPLETELY AVOID ROUTE 1 and AVOID ROUTE 140 towards Foxboro, 4 hours before and after the game.

The same road closures will be in effect as indicated in the separate post you’ll see if you scroll.

Thank you!

From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

ON MATCH DAYS….LEAVE THE DRONE ALONE! DRONES PROHIBITED.

Just a “heads up” that all aircraft operation, including unmanned aircraft systems and DRONES are prohibited on match days within a 3 nautical-mile radius of the stadium and up to 3000 feet above ground level, unless specifically authorized by the FAA.

Putting this out there as a PSA because we understand many people have recreational drones and could accidentally violate the no fly zone. Accident or not, if your drone is detected it will trigger a law enforcement response, led by the F.B.I and supported by other agencies. Through counter measures, your drone may be intercepted, seized and destroyed while in flight. Then, you’ll likely have a home visit by law enforcement.

All of this, of course, is to assure fans can enjoy the games in the safest environment possible.

UPDATE: MOMMA HAZEL! 6 PUPS! ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL!

Only days ago, “Hazel” was found at the Wrentham Dog Park, neglected, abandoned, alone in the dark and pregnant. That’s all bad news, but the great news for Hazel is she was “dumped “ in Wrentham!

Hazel was scared when a kind stranger found her at the park during the wee hours, defensive and growling when officers came to to rescue her, likely believing another human had come to hurt, not help. Then…Hazel met ACO Lexi and her life became a fairy tale, a Cinderella story of sorts.

Showered in love by hundreds of well wishers, Hazel had a spa day, checkup with the Veterinarian, began her healthy pre-natal eating plan, was visited by and easily won over the Kraft family and yesterday…gave birth to six little, healthy pups! HAPPY HAZEL!

And that is the end of the story. 😁

From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

NEW 495 SB ON-RAMP FROM RT. 1A NORTH IS FINALLY OPEN

The new 495 SOUTH on-ramp is now open. You will see this new ramp on your right as you’re traveling north on Rt. 1A from Plainville toward Wrentham. The old 495 south ramp that used to be on your left is permanently closed. Apple, Waze and Google Maps have been notified to update their software. Thus far, only Apple has done it. PLEASE drive extra slow and use caution as you proceed through this area. The on-going construction and new configurations will take some getting used to. The traffic lights currently in place are temporary and may be confusing. When the project is completed, it will all make sense.

From Police Chief Bill McGrath:

LARGE EXPLOSION HEARD WAS NOT LOCAL.

The large explosion people heard and called about was likely a large meteor entering the earths atmosphere, according to multiple sources, though nothing confirmed as yet.

The explosion was heard and felt throughout New England, shaking homes and causing many people to be justifiably concerned.

We have no reports of damage or injuries in Wrentham and haven’t heard of any injuries in the region.

The image depicted above is not the actual meteor. 😐
