From Chief Bill McGrath:
ATTENTION & PLEASE SHARE: PUBLIC AREAS CLOSED.
Wrentham Public Parks & Trails; all Wrentham Public Properties Are Closed Effective Today, April 6 at 4:00 P.M.
For at least one week, all parking lots, parks, trails and Wrentham public property are closed. We will review the most up to date information on Monday, April 13, 2020 and decide if closures should continue.
NOTABLE AREAS THAT ARE CLOSED:
Joe's Rock & Birchwold Farms, West Street
Wrentham State Forest, Taunton Street
Wollomonopoag Conservation Area, Elysium Street
Sweatt Field, Randall Road.
Sweatt Park, Tennis Courts. Rt. 140 @ Rt.1A
Sweatt Beach Lot & Beach, Woolford Road.
Traut Pond, Knuckup Hill, All Points of Entry.
All Public School Lots, Playgrounds, Basketball Courts.
AND ALL OTHER PUBLIC AREAS
Closures are in response to ominous warnings from Public Health officials that the worst is now upon us. The U.S. Surgeon General warned this week is going to be the “hardest and saddest” for “most American lives”. He said, "This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment, only it's not going to be localized, it's going to be happening all over the country and I want America to understand that,"
As of today, nine Wrentham addresses have confirmed cases of Corona-19. This number grows daily.
As of today, 12,500 confirmed cases in Massachusetts.
As of today, 231 of our fellow citizens are dead from this dreaded virus. These numbers grow daily and are expected to spike dramatically this week.
All parking lots will be barricaded to prevent entry and WPD Officers will be posted at locations for enforcement.
I expect objections & strong differences of opinion about this action. What cannot be denied is the best way to flatten the curve is physical/social distancing. My logic is simple. By virtue of living in the suburbs, we all enjoy the advantage of waking up in the morning “socially/physically distanced” from our friends and neighbors. In light of what’s happening, why take a step backwards and go to a location where everyone is closer? So please, cooperate and Stay At Home/Walk From Home.
