🚨Baltimore Firefighters Do It All.🚨

Our members don’t just respond to an extreme number of fires. We don’t just handle an obscene number of emergency medical calls. We handle everything that comes our way.

Today, that meant responding to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and rescuing someone from the water. Tomorrow it will be something different. Whatever the call, Baltimore’s firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and dispatchers will answer it.

And they continue doing it while overworked, understaffed, under-resourced, underpaid, and increasingly frustrated by an administration that seems more interested in enforcing minor rules than addressing the major problems facing this Department.

We understand that rules are rules. We understand the importance of professionalism, uniforms, grooming standards, policies, and accountability.

But leadership also requires perspective and common sense.

When your members are being forced to do more with less every single day, when apparatus and equipment remain a constant concern, when overtime and staffing shortages are wearing people down, constant pay issues that plague us every two weeks and when the men and women in the field continue answering call after call regardless of the circumstances, maybe whether someone’s mustache extends slightly beyond their lip or whether a T-shirt is tucked in shouldn’t be the hill the administration chooses to die on.

Take care of the big things first.

Give our members reliable apparatus.
Give them adequate staffing.
Give them the equipment and resources they need.
Pay them what their work is worth.
Listen when they raise legitimate safety concerns.
And start treating experienced professionals like experienced professionals.

Because while some people are worrying about mustaches and tucked-in shirts, our members are pulling people out of the harbor, fighting fires, providing lifesaving medical care, and protecting this city 24 hours a day.

The citizens of Baltimore can continue to count on Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734 members to answer the call.

We just wish our members could count on their administration with that same certainty.

This evening at approximately 5:33 PM, the police department and the Keystone Valley Fire Department were dispatched to the unit block of South Culvert Street for the report of two vehicles submerged in water.
