BEHIND THE ARMOR: Tyler Hott
While most students were enjoying the final days of summer, Tyler Hott, Eastern York High School Class of 2028, got up a little early and volunteered to suit up as our Golden Knight to help welcome staff back for the new school year on Tuesday morning. Tyler brought the high fives, waves, and Golden Knight pride as our staff arrived, helping us kick off the year on a positive note.

Thank you, Tyler, for being willing to do a little extra for Eastern York. Itโ€™s a GREAT DAY to be a KNIGHT!

IT'S STILL A GREAT DAY TO BE A KNIGHT!
After adjusting our original opening day plans, we were proud to officially welcome back our entire Eastern York staff this morning with a special gathering at the middle school!

It was a great morning to welcome our newest Golden Knights, recognize staff members for their years of dedicated service, and come together as one team as we prepare for another great year serving the students and families of Eastern York.

The past few days may have changed our plans, but they certainly havenโ€™t changed who we are or what weโ€™re here to do. Itโ€™s a GREAT DAY to be a Golden Knight!

Welcome to EYHS!

Welcome to EYHS, Mr. Smith!

We are excited to introduce the Eastern York community to Mr. Phinean Smith! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ‰

Phinean will join us as a building substitute at EYHS before transitioning into a permanent Social Studies teaching position in January 2027. A graduate of York Suburban and York College of Pennsylvania, Phinean brings a passion for history, a heart for serving others, and six years of service in the U.S. Army. Outside of school, he enjoys coaching youth football and lacrosse, playing video games, and sharing his love of history.

When asked about a teacher who made a lasting impact, Phinean immediately thought of Dr. Paraskevakos. Although he admits he was a bit of a "knucklehead" in her class, he says her unwavering care and support both inside and outside the classroom left a lasting impression.

Fun facts: His first job was as a cart attendant at a golf course, he likes Life cereal. and his favorite word is polyglot!

Please join us in giving Phinean a warm Eastern York welcome! It's a great DAY to be a KNIGHT!

EYHS ART STUDENT OF THE MONTH: KEILANI DIAZ
EYHS Senior, Keilani Diaz, had a BIG IDEA. During our subtractive sculpture unit, Keilani decided to create a massive sculpture of a crocodile. Subtractive sculpture involves carving or removing material from a single mass to reveal a sculpture, similar to how Michelangelo carved his figures from a solid block of marble.

She wanted her sculpture to be larger than any of the typical molds that liquid plaster is usually poured into for a carved project. Keilani decided that a wash basin tub would produce a plaster block large enough to house her crocodile subject matter in a coiled position. After the block was poured and the plaster had set, reality also set in, and the hard work began. She began using a mallet and chisel to remove large chunks to rough out the form. Sometimes Keilani would take a break from that and work on detailing the face and mouth. Eventually, over the course of three weeks, Keilani brought the crocodile form out of the block. Simultaneously, she created ceramic sculptures of two Egyptian Plover birds, a species that has an almost symbiotic relationship with crocodiles by picking bugs, insects, and even cleaning the teeth of the large reptiles.

The sculpture was not fully finished at the time of the art show, so it was decided to be exhibited among the tools, materials, and even the debris mess that is part of the subtractive process to show it in progress. If you were able to visit the art show, you surely saw this sculpture commanding attention on its display table. Not only did Keilani work meticulously to achieve the general form of the crocodile, but she also strived to mimic the textures with scales, ridges, and bumps all over the surface of her sculpture. To celebrate Keilani bringing this big idea to life and persevering through a difficult process, she is recognized as the EYHS Artist of the Month for May. Congratulations, Keilani!
