Seventh grade students met some very interesting "people" this week. Each students selected a famous person from the past and created questions they would like to ask. After researching for answers, they wrote up the interview giving their skeleton some personality. Students then dressed and decorated their skeleton accurately to look like their selected character. Spectacularly spooky, 7th grade!

Parents of middle school and high school students, here are some end of the year logistics answers that some of you have been asking about:

The sports physicals are scheduled for tomorrow for all student athletes planning to participate in athletics for the 2021/2022 school year.

Tomorrow and Friday will also be the days for exempt students, defined as having a 70% average or greater and 5 or less absences, to be given the freedom to not attend school. Non-exempt students or those that have less than a 70% average and/or more than 5 absences will be working on Final Projects for the next two days.

Good question here: How do the exempt students get their sports physicals taken care of? The answer is that we will be giving them physicals beginning at 8:30 tomorrow. If the student is exempt, we will be getting them in and out as quickly as possible and squeezing in the non-exempt students whenever possible. Best advice would be to have your child with completed and signed paperwork in hand, at the health clinic here on campus at 8:30 and we will get them in and out and they can enjoy the rest of their exempt day and get to enjoying their summer.

Non-exempt students are required to complete the Final Project. Failure to complete the project will result in a zero on the gradebook that could potentially hurt their overall grade significantly.

A student that is exempt in most classes but is NOT in a couple of classes needs to abide by the following policy: They need to be on time at a minimum to the first class for which they are not exempt and remain on campus until their last non-exempt project hour is completed. In other words, they can get here late if they are exempt in classes, and they can leave early when their projects are done, but we do NOT want students coming and going throughout the day. If the student needs to ride the bus in and remain all day despite being exempt for most classes, that student WILL work on the project while on campus even if exempt. There will be NO students on campus NOT working on the project. If you’re here, you’re working.

The academic awards assemblies are tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 for Middle School and at 6:00 tomorrow evening for High School. Letters and messages have been sent home for most students that we have been made aware of that are receiving an award. The event will also be livestreamed on Facebook for those unable to get away from work or any other obligation for the middle school academic awards assembly.

Thank you for working with us throughout this strange and confusing school year!!

On Monday, April 19th and Monday, April 26th, we will be going to a distance learning format for ONLY 6th-12th grades due to the annual Wyandotte Track Meet on the 19th and it is our staff’s turn to host the Lucky 7 Conference Meet on the 26th. The logistics of covering classes for those days is typically chaotic and frustrating and we seem to have no students in class due to the disruption that the meet causes. You do have the option of sending your child to school if it is necessary for tutoring needs, lack of child care, or a lack of dependable internet services. The busses are already running their normal routes because SCHOOL IS FULLY IN SESSION FOR ELEMENTARY GRADES. Students should NOT be riding the bus in and planning to spend the day at the track meet as a non-participant just to hang out with friends. If the student is a track athlete and rides the bus, that is perfectly fine. Otherwise the students will be working from home. A good portion of our staff will be working the meets but there will be plenty available to help with tutoring needs. Teachers WILL have assignments loaded onto their Google Classrooms and we will make the best use of both days.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Spring Break. This is a fun time of year. We wanted to let you all know that after Spring Break, all grade levels will be back in school 5 days per week. We will not be getting rid of the mask policy yet, but we are hopeful now that we are seeing multiple weeks in a row of COVID numbers significantly down that that trend will continue. Our staff is excited to take yet another step toward normalcy as well.
Thank you for trusting your children with us through all of this. Watching all of this unfold this last year and trying to manage this school year has been trying, but you’ve done a fantastic job of working with us as partners, and many of you have taken the extra step to reach out and intentionally offer support and encouragement. We can’t tell you how much that means.
Enjoy this break with your children and we look forward to being back in the classroom 5 days per week starting March 22-26. Thank you.
