Dangerous fire weather conditions will develop today across E OK and NW AR. The most volatile fire weather conditions will setup along and north of I-44 and west of Highway 75 in NE OK by late morning. The fire weather threat will continue through the afternoon and into early this evening. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of NE OK and will go into effect between 10 AM - 8 PM today. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Strong west/west-northwest winds, low relative humidity, and well above average temperatures are expected to create widespread near critical, locally critical, fire weather conditions on Thursday across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Winds will increase to 15-25 mph during the afternoon, with gusts between 30-35 mph. Minimum relative humidity values between 10-20% are expected as well as temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Be very careful today! Try and avoid any outside burning.

..ELEVATED TO NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY...

Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions will
exist today across eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas.

Northwesterly winds from 15 to 25 mph, gusting 30 to 40 mph, will
develop by late morning and continue through the afternoon across much
of the region. Fuels remain very dry from the ongoing drought conditions
and relative humidities will fall into the 15 to 25 percent range this
afternoon. The result will be elevated to near critical grassland fire
spread rates across much of eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas.

Avoid outdoor activities that could inadvertently start a fire,
including disposing of ci******es properly. Report any wildfires
to local officials.

Just to make everyone aware our storm siren in Wyandotte behind station one was struck by lightning this morning. So until it can be replaced, if there is any weather that would warrant the siren being sounded we will run around town with a siren blaring on a fire truck. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you Jodi Francisco

In Memory of Volunteer Firefighter Zac Rinehart

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic loss of Vinita Volunteer Firefighter Zac Rinehart, who was killed today in a crash while working for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.

Zac exemplified the spirit of service that defines our community. As a volunteer firefighter and member of the Craig County Technical Rescue Task Force, he answered the call to protect and serve his neighbors without hesitation.

The Vinita Fire Department has lost not just a firefighter, but a brother. Our community has lost a true servant.

We ask for your prayers for Zac's family, friends, and all who knew and loved him during this difficult time.

Zac's legacy of service will not be forgotten.
