A Message From City Manager Brent Parker:
After 25 years of serving the City of Wylie, I will officially retire on January 4.

Having the opportunity to serve my hometown for the past 25 years has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I began my career in the fire service and had the opportunity to work my way through the ranks, eventually serving as Fire Chief. That journey ultimately led me into city administration, and since October 2021, I have had the honor of serving Wylie as City Manager.

When I started in the fire service over 25 years ago, I could not have imagined where this career would take me. Each role brought different responsibilities and challenges, but the purpose remained the same; serving the community I call home.

I am grateful for the people I have had the opportunity to work alongside, for the dedication and professionalism of our employees, and for the trust placed in me throughout the years. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, but more than anything, I am grateful for the relationships and friendships built along the way.

While this chapter of my career is coming to a close, I am looking forward to what comes next.

Thank you, Wylie. It has truly been an honor to serve my hometown.

Twenty-five years have passed, but we remember.

Please join us at Wylie Fire Rescue Station 4 as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and pause together as a community to remember the lives lost, the courage shown, and the sacrifices made on a day that forever changed our nation.

On September 11, we lost 343 firefighters, eight FDNY EMS personnel, 72 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians and military personnel. We will pay tribute to the first responders who ran toward danger, remember the countless families whose lives were forever changed, and reflect on the resilience and unity that followed one of the darkest days in our nation's history.

If you are unable to attend the ceremony, we encourage you to find a moment during the day to pause and remember. You may also visit “Never Forget” at Station 4, 3200 McMillen Drive, a sculpture by Terrence Martin containing actual pieces of the World Trade Center and bearing the names of first responders who died while responding to the attacks.

This past Friday morning kicked off with coffee at Shoemaker & Hardt as Mayor Porter, Mayor pro tem Mulliqi, WEDC representatives, and City staff welcomed Congressman Self to Wylie for tours of Deanan Gourmet Popcorn and Savage Precision Fabrication, two of Wylie's beloved manufacturers. Lunch at Creekside Fine Grill wrapped up the visit. Thank you for supporting Wide Awake Wylie.

FLOCK CAMERA UPDATE
The Wylie City Council voted 7-0 on Tuesday night to terminate the automatic renewal of the City's Flock camera contract. Watch for the City's cameras to be taken down after the contract expires on Oct. 13. The City incurs no cost for the non-renewal. Councilmembers may schedule a future work session to continue discussion on this law enforcement technology.

"The City Council fully supports the Wylie Police Department and sees potential value in this law enforcement tool," said Mayor Porter. "But at this time, due to concerns about privacy and how the data is being handled outside our department's control, we voted not to renew the current contract."

City Offices will be closed Monday, September 7, and reopen at regular hours on Tuesday.

Smith Public Library will be closed Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7, for Labor Day and building maintenance. The library will reopen Tuesday, September 8 at 10 am.

Wylie Recreation will be closed Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7, for Labor Day and building maintenance. The Rec Center will reopen Tuesday, September 8 at 5 am.

Community Park Center will be closed Monday, September 7, and reopen at regular hours on Tuesday.
