It’s game day! Good luck Raiders!!
Also just to let everyone know, Wymore EMS does still provide medical coverage to the games! The ambulance isn’t always there, HOWEVER there is ALWAYS an EMT dedicated to, and stays at the Varsity GAME. This EMT has supplies needed to manage injuries until an Ambulance arrives should one be needed. If there are enough members available to still answer 911 calls AND have the assigned EMT stay at the game, then the Ambulance will be there. Otherwise the Ambulance doesn’t go to the games, again because the EMT assigned to the game STAYS at the game and should a 911 call come through that needs answered, there’s not enough time to grab supplies potentially needed for the game, etc. In the past we have been heavily criticized for not being at the games, when in fact we are and haven’t missed a game in over 10 years. The weather was perfect for a Sunday Funday hosted by Wymore Fire. Wymore EMS offered free blood pressure checks to the community, passed out emergency data and file of life forms, let the kids see the inside of the ambulance and the equipment we use and enjoyed the meal and conversation with the community members. Great job putting on this event Wymore Fire.

Tonight was another night we will never forget.

On April 28, 2026, what began as an ordinary meal for one individual quickly turned into a fight for life. Thanks to the immediate actions of a courageous bystander, Preston Meyer, followed by the rapid response of Wymore EMS, Wymore Fire, Beatrice Fire & Rescue, dispatchers, Star Care and everyone else involved, that patient was given the opportunity to survive.

Today, we were honored to receive the Nebraska Code Save Award, recognizing the teamwork, high-quality CPR, and early defibrillation that made that outcome possible.

This award doesn’t belong to one person. It belongs to every set of hands that performed CPR, every person who carried equipment, every dispatcher who answered the call, every firefighter, EMT, paramedic, the deputies who were on hand to assist, and every bystander willing to step forward when seconds mattered most.

The greatest reward isn’t the certificate. It’s knowing that someone went home to their family because people chose to act.

I’m incredibly proud of our volunteers and grateful to serve alongside such dedicated men and women. Rural EMS and fire departments face many challenges, but moments like this remind us exactly why we answer the call. We can’t answer every call, and we carry that guilt with us daily.

Thank you to the patient and family for allowing us to share in your journey, and congratulations to everyone who was recognized tonight. This is a reminder that CPR saves lives, AEDs save lives, and ordinary people truly can make an extraordinary difference.
