Today, members of the Wynantskill Fire Department gathered to pay our final respects to Past Captain Gary W. Daus, who passed away on February 7, 2026.

Gary was a lifelong member of the Wynantskill community and proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and Captain with our department. His commitment to the fire service continued beyond WFD, and today we were honored to stand together with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters as he was laid to rest.

The fire service is built on tradition, service, and brotherhood. Although Gary is no longer with us, his service to our department and our community will always remain part of WFD’s history.

Our thoughts remain with the Daus family and all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside Gary.

🚒 JULY 2026 MONTHLY SUMMARY 🚒

July was our busiest month of the year to date, with 122 alarms dispatched. Much of the increased call volume was the result of all of that rain we had, bringing our 2026 total to 388 alarms.

As a 100% volunteer fire department, our members remain committed to serving our community. We appreciate the continued support of our residents, neighboring agencies, and everyone who supports our mission.

🚒 Great opportunity for local students interested in fire, EMS, or public safety.

This program provides hands-on training, real-world experience, and the opportunity to earn school credit while learning from active firefighters and EMTs.

If you know a student who may be interested, take a look at the information below and encourage them to speak with their school guidance counselor.

🚒 Big news: Rensselaer and Capital District High School students can now train alongside real firefighters and EMTs, for school credit. Our Fire Science/EMS CTE program puts you through hands-on skills with hose lines, extrication tools, first aid, and radio ops, taught by working members of this department. Right now we only have 5 students signed up for the fall cohort. We know there are more of you out there who've thought about this. If you're curious, the first step is easy: talk to your guidance counselor this week. ❓ Know a student who'd love this? Tag them below.

If you have an emergency or need to request Fire Department services, please do not call the firehouse.

As a 100% volunteer fire department, there isn’t always someone at the station to answer the phone. Calling the proper number ensures your request is received immediately and that the appropriate resources are dispatched without delay.

It's been a busy day for the members of the Wynantskill Fire Department. So far today, we've been dispatched to over 50 calls for service. Our volunteers have been on the move all day, answering calls while the weather continues to impact our community.

A reminder to everyone: Never drive through flooded roadways and stay alert for changing conditions.

Thank you to our members, mutual aid partners, dispatchers, highway crews, police department, and everyone working together to keep our community safe.

🚨 State of Emergency Declared in Rensselaer County 🚨

Due to widespread flooding, a State of Emergency has been declared in Rensselaer County. Please avoid non-essential travel so emergency crews can safely respond to incidents across the county.

Our volunteers are actively answering calls for service. The best way you can help us today? Stay home unless you absolutely need to be out.

🌊 The fish may be enjoying the roads… but your car definitely won’t.

Stay safe, stay dry, and leave the flooded roads to the ducks.

Tuesday nights are for training! 🚒

This week’s drill focused on keeping both our members and equipment ready for the next call. Crews completed annual ground ladder inspections and preventative maintenance, reviewed chainsaw operation and safety, and wrapped up the evening with a refresher on box alarms and response assignments.

Every drill is another opportunity to sharpen our skills, maintain our equipment, and strengthen the teamwork that serves our community every day.

The 2026 Wynantskill Fire Department Annual Fund Drive is officially in the mail and should begin arriving in mailboxes this week.

Our annual fund drive helps support the day-to-day operations of our firehouse, allowing us to continue providing the high level of service our community has come to expect. From training and equipment to maintaining our station and responding to emergencies, your support makes a real difference.

This year, we’re calling on our neighbors, friends, families, local businesses, and supporters both in Wynantskill and beyond to help us reach our fundraising goal. Every donation—big or small—brings us one step closer and helps ensure we’re always ready when the call comes.

🚒 Mutual Aid Response | West Sand Lake Fire District

Today at 1:10 PM, the Wynantskill Fire Department was requested for mutual aid to the West Sand Lake Fire District for a reported structure fire.

Truck 42 responded with firefighters to assist crews operating on scene. Firefighters worked alongside neighboring departments to help bring the fire under control and support suppression operations.

We are proud to answer the call whenever our mutual aid partners need assistance. Incidents like these demonstrate the value of teamwork, training, and the strong partnerships shared between neighboring fire departments.
