This past Wednesday evening, a few members of our North Greenbush Ambulance (Town of Brunswick EMS) crew had the opportunity to reunite with a patient whose life they helped save earlier this month. These moments are rare in EMS and serve as a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

On July 9, Eric suffered a sudden, severe allergic reaction after being stung by a bee while landscaping. Although he had been stung many times throughout his life without issue, this time he experienced a rapid onset of anaphylaxis. Within minutes, he became unresponsive and was nearing respiratory arrest.

Eric's brother-in-law quickly drove him to Albany Med EmUrgentCare, where the staff immediately began treating him in the parking lot while awaiting EMS.
A coordinated response from the New York State Police, Brunswick No. 1 Fire Company, North Greenbush Ambulance, and our Medical Director, Dr. Warren Hayashi, provided Eric with the advanced care he needed. Due to the severity of his condition, he required rapid sequence intubation, including sedation and paralytic medications, to secure his airway before being transported to Albany Medical Center.

Thanks to the quick actions of everyone involved, along with the outstanding continued care provided by the team at Albany Medical Center, Eric made a remarkable recovery and was discharged home with no lasting deficits.
Reunions like this don't happen often, but they mean the world to our crews. Seeing a patient healthy, smiling, and able to share their story is one of the greatest rewards in EMS.

Eric, we wish you all the best in your future adventures—and we hope you'll always keep an EpiPen close by!

A special thank you to everyone involved in Eric's care. This outcome is a testament to teamwork, rapid intervention, and the incredible partnership between our first responders, healthcare providers, and hospital staff.

Last night, the North Greenbush Town Board unanimously voted to approve a resolution to fund the construction of a much-needed new ambulance station in Defreestville, as well as a long-overdue renovation of our existing Wynantskill station.

The North Greenbush Ambulance would like to thank the entire Town Board for recognizing EMS as essential and continuing to support and invest in EMS.

In addition, a huge thank you to all of our ambulance commissioners, past and present. This project started well over a decade ago and is now coming to fruition.

To the North Greenbush community, thank you for your continued support. We are greatly appreciative and look forward to our future growth, resulting in even better patient care and outcomes.

Thank you!
