Borough of Wyomissing Parks and Recreation Department The Wyomissing Parks and Recreation Department and the Wyomissing Recreation Board provide outstanding programs and events for Wyomissing Borough

The Wyomissing Parks and Recreation Department and the Wyomissing Recreation Board are responsible for supervising and maintaining all recreation areas and facilities in the Borough. In addition, the Board oversees all programs at the playgrounds, pool and tennis courts. The annual special events Easter Egg Hunt, Earth Day, Fishing Rodeo, Concerts in the Park, Memorial Day Parade, Fourth of July P

arade and the Lighting of the Greens are sponsored by the Recreation Board. The Recreation Board meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. at Borough Hall.

Wyomissing’s Movies in the Park continues with The Sandlot on Friday, September 11th at Berkshire Heights Playground.

Showtime is 8:00 PM.

The Sandlot is more than a baseball movie — it’s summer vacation, backyard games, staying outside until dark, and the kind of childhood memories that never really leave you.

Ever wonder, “What kind of bird was that?” This Saturday is your chance to find out!

Join Lucy Cairns and the team from the Baird Ornithological Club for a guided Bird Walk through The Parklands. They’ll help you spot, identify, and learn a little more about the birds that call our Parklands home — including a few you may have seen hundreds of times but never knew by name.

Whether you’re an experienced birder, a backyard birdwatcher, or simply someone who enjoys a beautiful morning outdoors, this is a great way to slow down, look up and see the Parklands from a whole new perspective.

TOMORROW… WE’RE GOING FULL TIKI!

It’s time to say ALOHA to summer — and we’re sending it off with one amazing afternoon at the Wyomissing Pool!

The gates open at 1:00 PM for our End of Summer Party at the Wyomissing Pool, and we’ve packed the afternoon with plenty of island-style fun. Break out the Hawaiian shirts, flower leis, grass skirts and tropical gear… because we want to see you dressed for the occasion!

… and at 3:00 PM, it’s time to HOOP IT UP!

Our 3v3 Basketball Tournament tips off with two age groups:
• 14 & UNDER and 15 and UP
Grab your squad and be ready to hit the court!

Back poolside, we’ll keep the fun rolling with our Hawaiian Shirt Contest, limbo, tropical-themed pool games and plenty more throughout the afternoon.

From 5:00–7:00 PM, the DJ takes over with the music cranked up and the island vibes rolling right through the evening.

Some games turn into lifetime memories.

Mark your calendar and save the date for our next Movies in the Park night featuring The Sandlot on Friday, September 11th at Berkshire Heights Playground.

This one has everything we love about a summer movie night — baseball, best friends, big laughs, backyard legends, and that feeling of being a kid when the only thing that mattered was getting one more game in before the sun went down.

You asked, and we listened... the Wyomissing Pool will be open next weekend - on Saturday, August 29th, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM, as we host our Tiki Time End of Summer Party and say "Aloha" to summer. Mark your calendar and get that ugly Hawaiian Shirt out... the one you promised you'd never wear again.

The Berks County Conservation District has notified the Borough that a mosquito sample collected in Wyomissing has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

At this time, the risk of transmission remains fairly low. The County’s mosquito control team will be conducting additional larval and adult mosquito surveillance in the area to help reduce the potential spread of the virus. If continued virus activity is detected, an adult mosquito control treatment may become necessary.

Residents can help by taking a few simple precautions:
• Limit time outdoors between dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes are especially active.
• Wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe shoes when possible.
• Use an EPA-registered insect repellent and follow the product directions.
• Check your property for standing water and empty it regularly—including birdbaths, buckets, wheelbarrows, children’s toys, flowerpots and other containers where water can collect.

Even small amounts of standing water can provide a place for mosquitoes to breed, so taking a few minutes to walk around your property can make a difference.

The Borough will continue to share additional information from the Berks County Conservation District as it becomes available.
