Jewish Federation of Reading & Jewish Cultural Center of Reading

Jewish Federation of Reading & Jewish Cultural Center of Reading The Strength of a People. The Power of Community. It is the nucleus of our community and its heart. It combines tradition with fresh programming and activities.

The Jewish Cultural Center (JCC) of Reading is an extension of Jewish life beyond school, the workplace and houses of worship. Our vision for the future of the JCC is very simple, yet also very bold. The JCC is about serving you, our members, and working together to meet the broader needs of our ever-changing community. The JCC is where Jewish life is celebrated, a place where we embrace our Jewis

h connections. It is the hub of education and Jewish culture for people of all ages. It is where we hope to mold and instill Jewish ideas and ideals in our children and grandchildren. Our goal is to create an exciting, thriving and responsive JCC, where programs and services are offered on site or at key locations throughout our community. If we can't do it well in one location, we will offer it to perfection in another. Are we virtual? At times, but more importantly, we are about YOU! Won't you JOIN US?

Jewish Federation of Reading mourns the loss of Gloria Steinem, an icon and trailblazer of the feminist movement. In addition to her lifelong work advancing equality — which she continued until the end — she embraced her Jewish heritage, joining Esther Broner, Bella Abzug, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, and the other "Seder Sisters" for decades at their groundbreaking women's seder. That connection to Jewish life ran in the family: her paternal grandmother, Pauline Steinem, was a suffragist and Jewish educator who worked to rescue relatives from N**i Germany in the 1930s. Her legacy will live on in the millions of people she inspired. May her memory be a blessing.

As Shabbat ends, we're confronted with news of yet another attack directed against the New York Jewish community – this time, during Friday night services at Central Synagogue. There is no place in New York for intimidation or violence directed at a Jewish community – or any community – gathered in prayer. Read our full statement here.
