Sheriff Anthony Cline Announces $40,830 Grant for Driving Simulators

Sheriff Anthony Cline is proud to announce that the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office has secured $40,830 in grant funding to place a driving simulator in all three Wythe County high schools. This project is made possible through the strong partnership between the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office and Wythe County Public Schools, working together to better prepare our young drivers before they get behind the wheel. Before we give our kids the keys to a 4,000-pound automobile, we want to give them the opportunity to practice in a safe environment. The simulators will allow students to experience distracted and impaired driving, snow and ice, hazardous weather, interstate driving, and other real-world situations. With Interstates 77 and 81 running through Wythe County, giving our students the opportunity to experience interstate driving in a controlled environment just makes sense. This partnership is another investment in the safety of our students and our community, helping prepare young drivers for the challenges they will face on the road.

Welcome Back, Wythe County Public Schools Families!

Welcome back to a new school year! We’re glad you are here, and we are excited for what this year will bring. There are so many great things already happening in our schools, and some big opportunities coming. This year we invite every student and family to help carry forward the positive narrative of Wythe County Public Schools and your individual schools.

I am ready to kick off the school year in a district that has the best administrators, teachers, staff, parents, students, and community partners. Let’s support each other in ensuring all students are provided the best education and school experience possible.

Sheriff Cline and Superintendent Dr. Street invite you to come see the Wythe County SRO's at the Wytheville Walmart for the annual Pack the Bus event. SRO's will be at Walmart until 4 PM today, Saturday August 8th. Come support our local schools!

Wythe County Families,

As the school year approaches, all required PowerSchool forms and required vaccination records must be completed for each student. To access the PowerSchool forms, please log in to the Parent Portal. All forms must be completed before the first day of school.

Please pay particular attention to the form titled "Form C-WCPS Student Contacts (Parent/Guardian, Emergency Contacts) for the 2026-2027 School Year. This is a new requirement and asks that each parent/guardian and emergency contact listed have a unique phone number.

If you have trouble logging in to the Parent Portal, please contact your student's home school for assistance.

Please note: If all required Power School Forms and required vaccination records are not completed before the first day of school, students will not be permitted to attend school until the forms have been submitted.

The Wythe County School Board recognized Rural Retreat High School's track State Champions at the July 9, 2026 School Board Meeting.

Trey Ward won the 200m with a time of 22.66 seconds and the 4x100m Relay team (Brody Childers, Jake Rollyson, Chaz Penwright Jr. and Trey Ward) won with a time of 43.09 seconds, setting a new school record!
