Thursday was a busy day for A Shift!

Crews started the day with a joint Swiftwater Rescue Training alongside Xenia Township. While the water wasn’t quite as swift as we would have liked, we were still able to work through a variety of rope and boating evolutions and sharpen skills that are critical during water rescue incidents. A special thank you to Xenia Township for partnering with us on the training and providing their boat for the evolutions.

In the afternoon, crews took advantage of a house that is soon to be demolished to conduct hands-on structural training. Access to a real structure allows firefighters to train in a realistic environment and put their skills to work in ways that simply can’t be replicated in the station.

The Xenia Fire Division is proud to announce the upcoming launch of our new Pre-Hospital Whole Blood Program.
When severe trauma or critical blood loss occurs, every second counts. Our paramedics are currently undergoing specialized training to administer whole blood directly in the field—bringing life-saving, hospital-level care straight to our patients before they even reach the emergency room.
Through an innovative partnership with Premier Health, we have established a rotation system to exchange unused blood products prior to expiration. This ensures zero waste while keeping fresh, critical units on our front lines at all times.

We could not have done this alone.

A very special thank you to the family of late XFD Firefighter Steve Helling, whose generous donation made the acquisition of essential equipment and supplies possible. We also extend our deepest gratitude to Xenia Professional Firefighters Local 698, Premier Health and their Blood Bank team, and CareFlight. Their collaboration and support have turned this vision into a reality.
XFD remains committed to leading the way in modern paramedicine to keep Xenia and our neighboring communities safe. Stay tuned for official rollout updates

Today, C-Shift and the Xenia Fire Division Rescue Team simulated a trench rescue incident. These types of calls are uncommon, making it especially important to regularly practice the tools, techniques, and procedures needed to operate safely and effectively.

A special shout-out to the City of Xenia Service Department for their assistance with today’s training. In an emergency, it’s all hands on deck, and being able to train alongside other excellent city resources helps ensure we are prepared to work together when it matters most.
