📣 Yamhill Community Club Meeting — Save the Date!

The Yamhill Community Club will hold its next meeting on Monday, September 21, 2026.

The tremendous community support shown during Jim Phillips’ memorial reminded us just how much can be accomplished when people come together. Jim believed deeply in serving Yamhill, and one of the best ways we can honor his legacy is to continue that spirit of volunteerism.

The Community Club is responsible for Derby Days, improvements to Beulah Park, and many of the events and projects that bring our community together—but none of it happens without volunteers.

You do not need to serve on the board or make a major commitment to help. We need people willing to share ideas, assist with individual projects, volunteer at events, help with fundraising, or simply lend a hand when they can. Every contribution matters.

If you care about Yamhill and want to help shape what comes next, we would love to have you join us. New faces, fresh ideas, and willing hands are always welcome!

More than 500 people gathered at Beulah Park yesterday to celebrate the life of Jim Phillips. The incredible turnout was a beautiful reflection of how many lives Jim touched through his family, friendships, work, and lifelong service to the Yamhill community.

Jim was given full fire service honors in recognition of his 50 years of dedication and contribution to the Yamhill Fire Protection District. It was a moving and fitting tribute to a man who gave so much of himself to others.

We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who attended, participated in the procession, shared memories, sent condolences, or supported Jim’s family. Your presence helped make the day truly meaningful.

A very special thank-you goes to the many people and organizations who worked tirelessly—from the first days of planning through the final cleanup Sunday evening. Whether you helped with the procession, parking, seating, decorations, memorial displays, sound, food, fire honors, setup, cleanup, or any of the countless details in between, your time and care did not go unnoticed. A gathering of this size could not have happened without an extraordinary community effort.

Jim spent his life showing up for his family and his community. Yesterday, his community showed up for him.

Thank you for helping us give Jim the beautiful and honorable farewell he so greatly deserved.

🚒 Procession Viewing Information for Jim Phillips’ Celebration of Life

The memorial procession will begin promptly at 12:00 noon tomorrow by departing from Laughlin road and entering Yamhill on Main Street. It will then turn south onto Maple Street before turning onto Second Street and continuing toward Beulah Park.

Those wishing to pay their respects may view the procession from safe locations along Main Street, Maple Street, or Second Street. Please arrive early, remain safely off the roadway, supervise children, and avoid blocking intersections, driveways, or access points.

Please be prepared for traffic delays as the procession travels through town and the participating vehicles are directed into the park. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as our community gathers to honor Jim.

🚗 Parking and Traffic Information for Jim Phillips’ Celebration of Life

For those attending tomorrow’s Celebration of Life for Jim Phillips, please review the attached parking and traffic map before arriving.

Important parking information:

• All parking inside Beulah Park and along the park’s fence line is reserved.

• Five additional ADA parking spaces will be available next to the existing ADA spaces.

• General public parking will be available in the field south of the park. Enter from Hemlock Street, follow the designated route through the park, and parking attendants will direct you into the field.

• Overflow parking will also be available off 3rd street near Maple St.

Beulah Park will have a one-way traffic pattern to allow commercial vehicles to move through the park safely. Please follow the directional signs and the instructions provided by parking attendants.

Please park responsibly and leave enough room for other vehicles to park, enter, and exit safely. Parking attendants will be onsite to provide directions and help everyone find the appropriate parking area.

🚒 Jim Phillips Memorial Procession & Parking Information 🚒

A memorial procession honoring Jim Phillips will take place this Sunday. The procession will be limited to log trucks, dump trucks, and fire apparatus.

The procession is expected to leave the starting point at approximately 12:00 p.m. and enter Yamhill shortly afterward. The route map is provided for community members who would like to find a safe place to view the procession.

Procession Route:

Highway 240/Main Street → Maple Street/Highway 47 → 2nd Street → Hemlock Street

Please expect temporary traffic disruptions. Highway 47 both north and south of the intersection will be blocked briefly while the procession turns south onto Maple Street and again as it turns east onto 2nd Street. Please be patient, follow traffic-control directions, and allow extra travel time.

Memorial Parking:

All general guest parking will be in the field at the end of Hemlock Street.

Family members and vehicles displaying ADA placards may park along the park’s chain-link fence.

Beulah Park will operate as a one-way traffic area.
Vehicles will enter from Hemlock Street and exit onto 3rd Street.

Please follow the posted signs and the directions of parking and traffic volunteers. Thank you for helping us provide a safe and respectful procession as our community gathers to honor Jim.

Reminder — Jim Phillips’ Memorial Service is Next Sunday, August 30

As we prepare for Jim’s Celebration of Life next Sunday, we are working to finalize the procession and need to get an accurate count of participating vehicles.

If you or your agency/company are planning to participate in the procession with a:

• Fire apparatus
• Log truck
• Dump truck/Commercial Vehicle

please RSVP by texting 503-857-3830 with your name, company/agency, and type of vehicle.

Even if you have previously mentioned that you may participate, we would appreciate a quick text confirming that you are coming.

We are trying to get as accurate an apparatus and truck count as possible so we can determine whether any adjustments need to be made to procession staging or timing.

Honoring Jim Phillips — One Final Procession

On Sunday, August 30, our community will come together to celebrate the life of Jim Phillips—a man whose life was deeply rooted in logging, the fire service, and the Yamhill community.

As part of Jim’s Celebration of Life, we are organizing a special procession of log trucks and fire apparatus in his honor.

For decades, these were more than trucks to Jim. They represented his livelihood, his service, the people he worked alongside, and two important parts of the life he built here in Yamhill.

We would be honored to have logging companies, truck drivers, fire departments, fire districts, and fellow members of the fire service join us and help make this a fitting tribute.

The procession will start at the shops on Laughlin Rd. We are still working on the exact time (probably around 11am) but may change depending on how many we have.

Honoring Jim’s Legacy ❤️

Jim Phillips gave so much of his life to Yamhill. For decades, he showed up for this community—not for recognition, but because he genuinely cared about the people and the place he called home.

His dedication to the Yamhill Community Club, Beulah Park, Derby Days, the Yamhill Fire Protection District, and countless community projects has left a mark that will be felt for generations.

Many have asked how they can honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has asked that donations be made to either the Yamhill Community Club or the Yamhill Fire Protection District Volunteer Association. Both are nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that were very important to Jim throughout his life.

Perhaps one of the greatest ways we can honor Jim is to continue what he spent so many years doing—showing up, helping where we can, and making Yamhill a better place for the generations that follow us.

Thank you to everyone who has shared memories, offered support, and helped us honor a man who meant so much to our little community.

Jim’s work here may be finished, but his legacy is not. ❤️

The Yamhill Community Club is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend, mentor, and longtime community leader, Jim Phillips.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Yamhill who believed wholeheartedly in giving back to the community he loved. For decades, he dedicated countless hours to making Yamhill a better place for future generations. His heart was never more evident than in his unwavering commitment to Beulah Park and the Yamhill Community Club.

Whether it was preparing for Derby Days, organizing community events, improving the park, or quietly lending a hand wherever it was needed, Jim was always there. He wasn't one to seek recognition—he simply saw something that needed to be done and got to work. His vision, leadership, and tireless work ethic helped preserve Beulah Park as a gathering place where families, friends, and neighbors continue to make memories together.

Jim also served our community for more than 45 years with the Yamhill Fire Protection District, first as a volunteer firefighter and later as a member of the Board of Directors. Service to others wasn't something Jim did—it was simply who he was.

To many of us, Jim was more than a volunteer or community leader. He was a trusted friend, a mentor, a storyteller, and someone whose quiet wisdom and steady presence could always be counted on. He loved Yamhill, believed in its future, and worked every day to make it stronger.

His legacy lives on in Beulah Park, in Derby Days, in the organizations he helped lead, and in the countless people he inspired through his example of selfless service.

On behalf of the Yamhill Community Club, we extend our deepest condolences to Cathy and the entire Phillips family. We are grateful for the years we were blessed to work alongside Jim and for the lasting mark he has left on our community.

Thank you, Jim, for your friendship, your leadership, and your love for Yamhill. Your footprints are everywhere in this community, and your legacy will continue for generations to come.

Rest easy, Jim. You will never be forgotten.
