It is with the heaviest of hearts we extend our condolences to the families, friends, and fellow firefighters of the three firefighters who gave their lives yesterday battling the Snyder Fire. These brave and selfless individuals paid the ultimate price and we will never forget their sacrifice. We mourn with their loved ones. We pray for the two injured firefighters to make complete recoveries. We lift their loved ones in our prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

We recognize the strength, dedication, and selflessness of these brave individuals. Wildland firefighters willingly put themselves in between the danger of these fires and society. They put it all on the line, working in the most extremely dangerous conditions to protect lives, communities, and public and private property.

Please join us in praying and supporting their loved ones. We also pray for those still on the lines as conditions continue to rapidly decline. And as always, pray for rain.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

Due to high fire danger, Routt County has implemented Stage 2 Fire Restrictions effective June 23 at 12:00 PM for all lands outside municipal boundaries.

What this means:
No open fires or campfires (including debris burning)
No smoking except inside vehicles/buildings
No fireworks or explosives
No outdoor welding or cutting torches
Equipment like chainsaws and ATVs must meet strict spark-arresting requirements
