Meridian Pedestrian Bridge Both decks are open for pedestrians.

The Meridian Pedestrian Bridge, a double-deck bridge, constructed 1920-1924, that had vehicle traffic on the top deck only when it opened in October of 1924 and it had future plans for railroad on the lower deck.

The City of Yankton, in partnership with Yankton Thrive, is offering residents of the Meridian District, and anyone else who is interested in receiving special event notifications, the opportunity to opt in to a new notification system designed to improve communication regarding temporary street, alley, and parking lot closures associated with special events in downtown Yankton.

This notification system will provide advance notice of applicable closures to citizens who choose to participate. Notifications may be delivered via email, traditional mail, and/or texts based on the preferences selected during the opt-in process.

Participation in this notification system is voluntary. To opt in, you must submit your information by clicking on this link and then adding your contact information. Receive notifications via email or text.

We are committed to having a great show for Yankton tonight.....to ensure this can happen, we are moving ALL of the Music at the Meridian concert events for this evening INSIDE to Ben's Brew Station. We will delay the start time to 6pm, to ensure we have adequate time to get set for a GREAT show inside. Come down to Ben's and enjoy a great evening of music featuring Reinvented Wheels and headliner Hannah Dasher!

The weather forecast looks clear for the late evening so the fireworks at 10:00pm from the upper deck of the Meridian Bridge are a go on this Saturday, July 5. There will be no food vendors or entertainment in Riverside Park this evening. The Upper Deck of the Meridian Bridge will remain closed today due to the set-up of the fireworks. Please do not attempt to access the closed area. The lower level of the bridge will be closed from 9:00pm to 10:30pm for the fireworks show. Thank you for your cooperation.

The 100 miles for 100 years Centennial Celebration fitness challenge is soon coming to an end (as in Dec.31st). If you have been working to get the last trips wrapped up to achieve your 100 trips over and back on the Meridian Bridge, the weather is going to be very cooperative as the year comes to a close. Completed sheets need to be dropped off at the Summit Activities Center by Jan.1 2025. All finishers will be entered into our grand prize drawing!

Due to the size of the Holiday Festival of Lights Parade, float staging will be present on ALL of Levee Street west to Cedar. Ideal parade viewing for families can be found on Cedar Street and 3rd Street downtown. Please be advised there is NO PARKING on the parade route starting at 4:45pm on Thursday. Join us after the parade at the base of the Meridian Bridge for more festivities.
