🚨 **SCAM ALERT** 🚨

The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office has recently received reports of citizens receiving phone calls and text messages from scammers claiming they have active warrants for their arrest.

In many cases, the scammers instruct individuals to turn themselves in at their local Sheriff’s Office. They will often remain on the phone with the victim the entire time while they drive to or arrive at the Sheriff’s Office. Once the person arrives, the scammer then directs them to leave and obtain money from a Walmart, convenience store, or other business to supposedly resolve the warrant.

These scammers may provide fake case numbers, civil process numbers, or other fraudulent information to make their story sound legitimate. One reason they have victims drive to the Sheriff’s Office is to gain their trust and convince them that the situation is real.

⚠️ **Please remember:** The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office and other legitimate law enforcement agencies **do not call, text, or email you demanding money to clear a warrant or avoid arrest.**

✅ If you receive a suspicious call or text:
• Hang up immediately.
• Do not provide personal or financial information.
• Do not send money, purchase gift cards, or transfer funds.
• Contact your local law enforcement agency directly using a verified phone number.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with family and friends, especially those who may be more vulnerable to scams.

If you are currently a resident of R&S Village Apartments in Freeman and may need housing assistance because of the Section 8 Opt-Out, please be aware that applications with Yankton Housing should be submitted no later than July 15th
Due to the upcoming opt-out effective September 1, it is important to complete your application as soon as possible to ensure you have time to explore available housing assistance options and avoid potential disruptions.

Reminder for Thursday June 18th: CARVER HOUSE APARTMENTS WAGNER, SD

ATTENTION ALL CARVER HOUSE TENANTS IN WAGNER, SD
Application Packets and instructions to apply online have been mailed. please complete these and submit as soon as possible.
Yankton Housing staff will be at Carver House Apartments on June 18th, 2026, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to conduct a Briefing and unit inspections.
Mandatory Voucher Briefing-
A mandatory voucher briefing meeting for all tenants will be held on June 18th at 9:45 a.m. in unit #5 If you wish to be seated during this meeting, please bring a folding or lawn chair.
Unit Inspections
Yankton Housing staff will conduct inspections of all units between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on June 18th
To complete the inspection, you or another adult household member must be present to provide access to the unit. Three staff members will be conducting inspections simultaneously to ensure the process is completed efficiently.
