You may have heard Matthew Davis at the South Dakota Festival of Books in Sioux Falls earlier this month. He’s the author of the 2026 One Book South Dakota, A Biography of a Mountain, which explores the origins of Mount Rushmore and what it means to different people. A story in our current issue looks at how several writers over the years have approached Mount Rushmore’s complex history and place in our lives.
