🚧 National Work Zone Awareness Week 🚧

At Yarmouth Wastewater, our crews are out in the field every day—often working in and around roadways to keep our system running safely and reliably for the community.

Whether it’s responding to emergencies, maintaining pump stations, or repairing sewer infrastructure, work zones are a necessary part of what we do.

We’re asking everyone to slow down, stay alert, and give our crews the space they need to work safely. A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference.

👷‍♂️ Our team’s safety depends on you.
🚧 Drive like your neighbor is working in the road—because they might be.

🔧 Out with the old, in with the new!
Last week we replaced a chlorine flash mixer that’s been in service since 1991. After 30+ years, it was time for an upgrade.
Our crew handled the removal and installation in-house and got the new unit up and running.
Flash mixers are key to proper disinfection—keeping our system reliable and protecting public health.
Nice work by the team 💪

A piece of our history, brought back to life.

This original Treatment Plant sign dates back to the late 1960s—installed when the facility was first constructed. A few years ago, it was discovered buried under a pile of old fittings and hoses—basically forgotten over time.

We knew right away it was worth saving.

This past winter, Tim Harlow took on the restoration project—carefully bringing the sign back while still keeping up with the day-to-day operation and maintenance of our dewatering equipment. No small task.

The result speaks for itself.

We’re planning to reinstall the sign this spring, putting a piece of Yarmouth Wastewater history back where it belongs.

👏 Nice work, Tim.

🔧 Brookside Pump Station Upgrade 🔧

Out with the old and in with the new!

Last week our crew replaced a set of pumps at the Brookside Pump Station that had been in service for 28 years. After nearly three decades of reliable operation, it was time to upgrade to ensure continued performance and reliability for the system.

The new pumps are in place and ready to go—improving efficiency and helping us stay ahead of maintenance challenges before they become emergencies.

Big shoutout to our team for handling the installation in-house, from pull to install. Work like this keeps costs down and showcases the skill and dedication of our operators.

💪 Keeping things flowing for Yarmouth, one project at a time.

Yesterday, an air release valve serving a low-pressure force main became separated from the main. Fortunately, the issue was caught early and there was no service disruption to customers.

Staff met on site, assessed the situation, and quickly developed a plan. After a fast trip to Portland Plastic Pipe for a 3" fl**ge, the team removed the failed air release valve and installed the fl**ge—restoring the system in about 1.5 hours.

This repair is a temporary fix, with plans already in place to install a new air release valve in the near future.

Another solid example of teamwork, quick thinking, and proactive maintenance—especially in winter conditions. 💪❄️

🚨 Meet Our New Entrance Mascot! 🚨

Thanks to KJ Cline we’ve got a new “face” greeting everyone at the plant, and we think it deserves a proper name. 👀💩

This little guy has officially taken up residence near the entrance and is already keeping a close eye on operations. Now we need YOUR help — what should we call it?

Let the naming begin!

Last week, our wastewater staff discovered that a portion of a 12-inch cast iron force main serving the Harbor Pump Station had developed a leak. The Harbor Pump Station conveys roughly 85% of Yarmouth’s wastewater to the treatment plant, making it one of the most critical pieces of infrastructure in our system.

Fortunately, this location is equipped with dual force mains, allowing us to isolate the issue and complete repairs without any service disruption to the community.

We coordinated closely with Storey Brothers Excavating to make the necessary repairs quickly and safely. Big thanks to their crew and to our staff for the fast response and teamwork that keeps the system running smoothly.

This is a great example of why redundancy and proactive maintenance matter. 💪💧

🦃💧 On Thanksgiving, our clean-water superheroes are still on the job.

While others gather around the table, wastewater operators are out there protecting public health and keeping our community flowing.

Thank you to the crews working today — you truly are the heroes behind clean water. 💙

Reliable Power for Reliable Service ⚡️
Our staff has been hard at work installing a new standby generator at the North Road Pumping Station. This station is one of our most frequently visited sites during extended outages, and this upgrade will ensure uninterrupted wastewater service when the power goes out — keeping our systems running and our community protected.

Big thanks to our crew for their dedication and careful installation work! 👷‍♂️🔧💪
