Our Story

Concerned Yarmouth residents want a comprehensive organic land care ordinance, so we can enjoy the same public health protections and higher quality of life enjoyed by residents of Portland, South Portland and Ogunquit, which all have organic ordinances. We want all the people who live in, work in and visit Yarmouth to be safe from exposure to synthetic cosmetic lawn chemicals, which is detrimental to the health of soil, pollinators, humans, wild life, marine life and water. The science continues to grow, showing a link between pesticides and the development of cancer, Parkinson's, male infertility, autism and many other diseases. Precious pollinators from honeybees to butterflies ingest these poisons while foraging for nectar and pollen and that is directly linked to their massive decline. Children and pets should not be exposed to synthetic pesticides.

The status quo of integrated pest management (IPM) has been practiced for decades by licensed pesticide applicators, while we’ve watched synthetic pesticide use rise dramatically. IPM is an outdated idea that allows the use of synthetic pesticides. We want the higher standard of living offered by organic pest management (OPM), which excludes the use of all synthetics. We are organizing our community to pass a comprehensive organic ordinance to protect all that live in this wonderful community of ours.
