FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

You Drink. You Drive. You Lose- is Just Ahead
Drivers are advised that during the period of August 16 through Labor Day, September 1, the Woodson County Sheriff’s Office will join other police agencies across Kansas in a crackdown aimed at removing impaired drivers from the roadways during You Drink. You Drive. You Lose.

In Kansas, preliminary 2024 data shows that 83 people died and more than 1,100 people were injured in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver.

It is illegal to drive while impaired, and just one drink before driving can put you and others in danger, because alcohol impairs thinking, reasoning and muscle coordination.

Driving after consuming alcohol or any other potentially impairing substance is a choice you make.

You can make the responsible choice: plan to use a rideshare service, have a designated driver, or call a sober friend or family member to pick you up if you or your driver has been drinking.

According to Sheriff Morrison, The You Drink. You Drive. You Lose enforcement campaign is intended to remind drivers to take a moment to consider how it would be to begin every day with the memory of your decision if it resulted in injury or death. If you are driving impaired, you are not only more likely to crash, but that crash is much more likely to cause serious injury or death. Think about your family, your friends, your coworkers, and neighbors.

And always wear your seat belt, it’s your best defense against impaired drivers. Every trip, every time.

🌧️⛈️ Afternoon Weather Update for Woodson County ⛈️🌧️

We’re going to get soggy, but at least we’re not trying to kayak down Main Street like folks in El Dorado… and there's little risk of your house becoming oceanfront property, like the ones in Wichita.” 🛶💦

💧 Here’s the rundown:
– Scattered rain and thunderstorms are moving through this afternoon and evening.
– Expect a decent soaking, but the risk of tornadoes or big hail is low — just enough thunder to scare your pets and flood your driveway.
– 🌊 Watch for localized flooding, especially in those classic “it never floods here except every time it rains” spots.

🚗💦 See water on the road? TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.
This is Kansas, not SeaWorld — That new lift kit is going to make your truck look really dumb floating down Owl Creek. Trust me, there are way better ways to get your name in the Yates Center News.

📸 Spot flooding? Let us know.
We’ll take reports via phone, radio, smoke signal, or interpretive dance — just be safe and give us the heads up.

🌧️ Storms should ease off tonight, but we’ll keep watching and updating if things change.

Hang in there, Woodson County — stay safe, stay dry, and leave the synchronized swimming to the pros.

Meanwhile enjoy this snap of things to come, complements of Toronto Fire Department Assistant Chief Even Murray @ 110th Road & Coyote.
