The ground breaking had an awesome turnout last Friday. Yesterday I received an email from the Smith-Doyle Contractors. It stated that they were in the process of rewarding the contracts to the respected contractors which would be an approximate time of two weeks to complete. In the next step, they will be holding a Pre-Construction meeting to discuss the responsibilities of the contractors during the projects construction. Then they will begin the mobilization to move on site and start making the dirt fly. It will be good to see progress on the job site. Thank you to all who attended Friday for the official kick start. The fireworks show at the Flippin Hickey Park was a huge success tonight. The band Shotgun Divorce provided the music and there were several vendors set up for the evening of fun and fellowship. The Flippin Fire Department set up a mammoth sprinkler for all who wanted to cool off. The kids really got a kick out of playing in the water. I don't know how they managed to keep the soaked kids out of the bouncy houses that were on site for their pleasure. Finally, the evening was concluded with a wonderful display of fireworks. For all the folks involved in making this evening possible, I personally would like to extend a mighty "THANK YOU" for all that was done.

This last Friday I was honored to recognize Deputy Eldon Hellums for his 30 plus years of service to the citizens of Arkansas. 13 years in which he served in Marion County. It has been a honor to serve with Eldon the past 13 years. If anyone no matter who was in need, you could count on Eldon Hellums to be there. It was a great privilege of mine to be able to present him with a small token of our appreciation. We will always be grateful for Eldon has done over the years and continues to do for folks. He has a new great grand baby and is looking forward to spending a lot of quality time spoiling all his grand kids.

It followed us!! So this is the start of our vacation in Florida. I thought Florida was all fun in the sun...lol

We bare heavy hearts today. This morning we lost a fellow officer, husband and father. Pray for the families involved and the Yell County Sheriff's Dept.

The weather finally cooperated and the Water Creek Knap-In had a huge turn out. There was a list of things to see and do. The vendors had all their Native American displays. They also showed their craftsmanship by knapping different arrowheads. There was sand and water for the kids to play in and a fire pit and cook shack for folks to gather and visit. The cook shack had awesome food and ladies did a superb job with preparing the food and service. Saturday afternoon was the annual Tomahawk competition. The winners of the men's division was Wesley Shipman. The woman's division was Cora Whitehead and the kids division was Leon Shipman. There was a ton of folks that came and visited during this annual event. If you've never experienced the Water Creek Knap-in, I would encourage everyone to come down next year and take a look and enjoy some cook shack vittles.
