K9 Scully’s Retirement – A Badge of Honor for a Loyal Partner

Today, June 1, 2026, we proudly celebrate the retirement of K9 Scully. After years of dedicated service, Scully officially closes this chapter and begins a well-deserved retirement. He always approached the work with energy and pride, even today when Sgt. Pope arrived to take him from the kennel—Scully looked at his partner, paused at the door, and decided, “Not today—I’m not going in.” He’s earned every moment of this new chapter, and we couldn’t be more grateful for his work.

Scully contributed to countless successful operations, protecting our community and assisting his handlers.

Apprehensions and seizures: valuable work on the street safeguarding lives and property.

Drug interdiction: helped remove pounds of illegal drugs from the streets.
Team effort: served alongside multiple handlers, building lasting partnerships and trust.

Lifelong impact**: a loyal partner to the Yemassee Police Department and to every officer who trained with him.
Memorable moments**: many stories that exemplify his spirit, drive, and teamwork.

What’s Next for Scully
A well-earned retirement spent by a loving family and in a comfortable home environment.
Fond memories shared with the department and the community he protected.

Thanking Mrs. Badger for the tasty cupcakes and recognizing outstanding service

The Yemassee Police Department would like to extend our deepest thanks to Mrs. Badger for bringing by delicious cupcakes last week. Your kind gesture was a wonderful surprise and a tasty reminder of the support we receive from our community.

As we head into Officer Appreciation Week (May 10–16), we want to give a special shout-out to Cpl. Sineath and Officer Flanders for going above and beyond in service to our community. Your dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed, and the entire department is proud to stand with you.

The sweetness didn’t stop there—the rest of the department enjoyed the treats and appreciated the boost to morale. Thank you, Mrs. Badger, for your generosity and for helping us start this week with gratitude and camaraderie.

We had a great morning meeting with Savannah from Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s office. It’s always valuable to connect with our partners in public service, and we found the Waffle House to be a fitting setting to kick off important conversations and build relationships that benefit Yemassee and our community.

Special thank you to Savannah for the productive discussion and to everyone at the Waffle House #681 for the warm welcome. Strong collaboration with state and federal offices helps us keep Yemassee safe and informed.

We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved K9 Zika passed away last night after a brief illness. Zika, born 3-30-2016, brought incredible dedication and courage to every mission she joined. She retired about two years ago and lived out her well-deserved retirement with her handler, Cpl. Hoffman. Zika will be remembered for her outstanding service and the countless lives she touched.

Please keep Cpl. Hoffman, the department, and Zika’s extended K9 family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
