Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Non-Compliant S*x Offender in Fernley

Fernley, NV – On June 7, 2026, at approximately 7:45 a.m., members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) S*x Offender Task Force conducted a compliance investigation at a residence in the 3400 block of Drayer Lane in Fernley, Nevada.

The investigation was initiated after the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office S*x Offender Task Force received information indicating that Kyle Marcelino Landa, 41, was residing at an address different from the one listed in his registration records. Deputies subsequently contacted Landa, a registered s*xual offender, and determined he was out of compliance with Nevada’s s*x offender registration requirements.

Further investigation revealed that Landa had moved from his registered address and had failed to update his s*x offender registration within the time required by Nevada law. Deputies determined Landa had been residing at the Drayer Lane residence for approximately two weeks without properly updating his registration information.

Landa was taken into custody and booked into the Lyon County Jail on one felony count of Prohibited Acts – Violation of S*x Offender Registration (NRS 179D.550.1).

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office S*x Offender Task Force remains committed to ensuring all registered s*xual offenders residing in or visiting Lyon County comply with Nevada’s registration requirements. Deputies proactively investigate reports of non-compliance and take appropriate enforcement action to protect the community.

The mission of the Task Force is to ensure full compliance among registered s*xual offenders within Lyon County. Individuals who fail to meet their legal obligations will be held accountable.

The LCSO encourages community members to report concerns or suspicious activity related to s*xual offender compliance. To report information regarding out-of-compliance s*xual offenders residing in Lyon County, please contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office S*x Offender Task Force via email at [email protected].

MEDIA ALERT

Joining Forces Impaired Driver Campaign
June 5, 2026 – June 21, 2026

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with participating law enforcement agencies in Nevada for a Joining Forces Impaired Driver Campaign. The campaign will take place from June 5, 2026 through June 21, 2026.

This Impaired Driver Campaign aims to increase law enforcement participation by coordinating highly visible patrols across the State of Nevada with the goal of keeping motorists safe by removing impaired drivers off Nevada’s roadways and educating the motoring public about the dangers of driving while impaired.

Reminder:

Spending a few dollars on a rideshare or taxi is a lot less costly than a DUI, which can amount up to $10,000 or more. A DUI arrest results in being in jail, having your car impounded, losing your driver’s license, potentially losing your job and most importantly, can result in injuries and the loss of lives. Never be too proud or embarrassed to ask for a ride. Allowing a sober driver to help you get home safely keeps you and others safe. Make the choice to never drive impaired. Every time you choose to get behind the wheel, lives are in your hands.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to bringing the number of fatalities on Nevada's roadways to zero through increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding, driving unrestrained, impaired driving, reckless driving and more. More information about safe driving and the Nevada Zero Fatalities goal is available Online at www.ZeroFatalitiesNV.com.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s- Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces to reduce traffic deaths.

Message of the Week 06/05/2026

Next week marks the end of the school year, and High School graduation across Lyon County. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office congratulates all of those who are graduating, and wishes them the best as they enter the workforce, go off to college, join the military or any other adventure they choose to embark on. High School graduation is a big deal; it marks the end of a 13-year commitment (K-12) in the education system, which is accompanied by growth and knowledge. Graduates, please take the time to celebrate your accomplishment(s) this weekend, but please do it safely and responsibly.

With school being out, outdoor recreation activities and community events throughout the County are taking place throughout the summer! The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office would like to share ways to keep your children safe this summer.

Recognize Signs of Heat Exhaustion

When kids get dehydrated, which is quite common on hot summer days, they are more at risk of heatstroke and exhaustion. By recognizing the symptoms of heat exhaustion in your children, you’ll be able to bring them indoors and prevent them from developing heat stroke (which can be incredibly dangerous, especially for young children). Signs of heat exhaustion include:

Body temperature between 100 F and 104 F
Dizziness
Weakness
Lethargy
Increased thirst and sweating
Clammy, cool skin
Nausea
Vomiting

When you notice these symptoms, it’s essential that you bring your child into a cool place and make sure that they drink lots of liquids to stay hydrated. You can also help lower their body temp by applying cool compresses to their skin.

Keep Kids Protected from the Sun

Sunscreen isn’t just for adults; it’s also for kids. Just one sunburn can increase your child’s risk for skin cancer in the future. That’s why it’s important that you have them lather up with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
It’s important that you apply a generous amount to their face and body about 30 minutes before going outside. If they are going to be playing or swimming outdoors, it’s essential that they reapply immediately after coming out of the water or if they are sweating.

Know Water and Swimming Safety

Summer often means a lot of time spent in the pool or by the water. While the water can be a ton of fun for kids, it’s also important that they practice proper water safety habits to prevent drowning and other accidents. Make sure to keep an eye on your child, even if there is a lifeguard on duty. If your child is new to swimming, you may want to enroll them in a swim class that can help them develop strong swimming skills.

Keep Bug Bites at Bay

Along with protecting your child from the sun’s powerful rays, you must also protect them from mosquitoes and other pests that could sting or bite them outdoors. Apply insect repellent before your child goes outside. There are many insect repellent options on the market these days, some of which are made from DEET-free and natural ingredients that are safe for all ages. Ask your child’s pediatrician if you are unsure which insect repellent is safe for them.

Stay Hydrated

Summertime is the best time to be a kid, and these helpful tips will ensure a smart, safe, and fun season for the whole family. Don’t forget to schedule your child’s back-to-school physical with your pediatrician, especially before the sports season begins.” https://www.coppellpedi.com/my-blog/617317-summer-safety-tips-for-children

IMPORTANT CONVERSATIONS TO HAVE:

Talk to your child about real-world dangers. Explain that it’s not safe for them to be alone with one adult, or to visit inappropriate websites with their friends.

Remind them that the rules you establish apply at all times, whether they are at home or not.

Establish a private code word for them to text you if they feel unsafe and need to be picked up.

Talk to any person who will be supervising your child, and let them know the rules you have set and your expectations of safety.

Ask your child specific questions when they get home, like who was there, what they did, and if they were in any unsafe situations.

Enjoy your summer!!

Respectfully,
Sheriff Brad Pope
