🚨 PUBLIC NOTICE – TRAINING EXERCISE 🚨

On Thursday, August 6, the Yoakum Police Department will be participating in a reunification drill in partnership with Yoakum Independent School District (YISD), Yoakum Community Hospital, and the Yoakum Fire Department. The exercise will also include an active shooter response scenario coordinated by the Yoakum Police Department.

Residents may notice a significant law enforcement and emergency response presence, including police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other first responders from multiple agencies, in the areas of Yoakum High School, the Yoakum Community Center, and Yoakum Community Hospital.

There is no cause for alarm. This is only a training exercise.

This exercise is designed to strengthen the response capabilities of law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel, school officials, medical staff, and our partner agencies while practicing the safe reunification of students with their families following a critical incident.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we work together to ensure our community is prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency.

🚨 HELP US IDENTIFY A BURGLARY SUSPECT 🚨

The Yoakum Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual pictured in these surveillance images. This person is a suspect in a recent burglary investigation.

Please pay close attention to the bright yellow hoodie worn by the suspect, as it may help with identification.

If you recognize this individual or have any information that could assist investigators, please send us a private message through the Yoakum Police Department Facebook Messenger.

Please do not post names or identifying information in the comments. Any tips should be submitted privately through Messenger so investigators can properly follow up.

⚠️ TROPICAL STORM BERTHA UPDATE ⚠️

The Yoakum Police Department is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Bertha and encourages all residents to stay informed and prepare for the possibility of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and localized flooding as the storm moves inland.

As of the 4:00 AM CDT National Hurricane Center Advisory (July 23, 2026):

🌀 Tropical Storm Bertha

* Location: Approximately 95 miles southeast of Lake Charles, Louisiana
* Maximum sustained winds: 45 mph
* Moving west at 13 mph
* Forecast to make landfall along the upper Texas coast today before moving inland across Texas tonight.

What this could mean for our area:
🌧️ Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated amounts up to 6 inches, are possible across portions of the Texas Gulf Coast and South Texas. While exact impacts to Yoakum remain uncertain, periods of heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

⚠️ Safety Reminders:

* Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
* Secure loose outdoor furniture and other items that could become airborne in strong winds.
* Charge phones and electronic devices in case of power outages.
* Have flashlights, batteries, medications, and emergency supplies readily available.
* Continue monitoring trusted weather sources for updated forecasts and watches or warnings.
