Today we remember the tragedy of 9/11.
Together we remember the 2,977 lives that were lost at the hands of terrorists. 2,977 families that lost their loved ones, 2,977 men and women took their last breaths not knowing it was the last, every victims name now etched into the panels surrounding the twin pools of the memorial in NY.
We remember the 343 firefighters who ran into the face of danger, sacrificing their lives for the chance to save others. Our own brothers and sisters fought their last fight for the selfless reason of rescuing someone else. We remember you, your sacrifices, your bravery.
Even ordinary citizens took the chance to save lives. After the attacks of 9/11 over 20,000 people donated blood to the New York Blood Center, an estimated 36,000 units of blood were donated with the hopes of saving those wounded during the attacks.
25 years later we still remember. Never forget.
