What an inspiring visit to School 16, Yonkers Public Schools! Students showcased their creativity through a remarkable gallery of Yonkers landmarks, including City Hall and our historic train station, all built from recycled cardboard. The highlight of the day was hearing students perform "We Are the World," and yes, some of us in the audience, myself included, couldn't resist joining in. A beautiful reminder of the talent, imagination, and heart that make our Yonkers students so special. Congratulations to Principal Dr. Vanessa Vasquez, the staff, families, and students on this well-deserved School Spotlight Award!

👏 Earlier today, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano joined Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr. to present the School Spotlight Award to School 16, recognizing the school’s excellence in Innovation & Future-Ready Skills and Student Agency, Leadership & Civic Engagement.

School 16 earned this recognition through its Recycled Roots: Yonkers Landmarks Gallery Walk, an interdisciplinary Pre-K–8 project that connects classroom instruction to real-world environmental challenges in Yonkers.

Congratulations to the students, staff, and administrators at School 16 for this outstanding achievement and for inspiring positive change in their community!
