New Year's Eve calls for celebrations of joy, success, and excitement for the year ahead. As you're celebrating, do so safely.

Do not drink and drive. Do not drive under the influence. Do not use your cell phone while driving. Do not take a chance this New Year's Eve because you could get seriously injured and injure others if you drive under the influence or while distracted.

We'll be outside, keeping watch, and Yonkers will have extra safety checkpoints to help keep an eye on the roads and keep you and your families safe as you celebrate New Year's Eve.

Update: due to the aggressive tactics of your Yonkers Firefighters, the fire is now under control, and all civilians are safe.

This building poses major tactical concerns, and due to the pre-planning, training, and aggressive fire attack, we were able to prevent major loss today for both civilians AND property.

As we fall back into Standard Time, your Yonkers Uniformed Fire Officers Association urges you to take a moment to make your home and family safer. Here are four essential safety tips to help you stay prepared during this seasonal transition:

๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—บ ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€: Daylight Saving Time ending is a great reminder to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms. A functional smoke alarm is your first line of defense against house fires, so ensure it's in top condition.

๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€: If you have security cameras, don't forget to change their batteries. A well-functioning security system can help deter crime and provide valuable evidence in case of an emergency.

๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜€: Take a few moments to test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This simple step can save lives by alerting you to potential dangers in your home.

๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐˜ & ๐—›๐˜‚๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—™๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—”๐—ถ๐—ฑ ๐—ž๐—ถ๐˜๐˜€: Emergencies can happen at any time. Ensure your first aid kits are well-stocked and up to date. Don't forget to include supplies for your furry family members.

By following these safety tips, you can make your home more secure and ensure that you're prepared for the unexpected. Daylight Saving Time ending isn't just about adjusting your clocks; it's a great opportunity to make safety a priority.

As your local emergency responders, we are dedicated to keeping our community safe, and we encourage you to take these simple yet vital steps to protect your loved ones and your home. We're here for you, day and night.

Stay safe and be vigilant!

Your Yonkers Fire Officers are saddened to hear of the passing of Jack Oโ€™Malley from the Yonkers Motorcycle Club. Jack was a club member for many years, served as President several times, and was instrumental in getting us the insurance we needed for our annual Hogs4Hope charity motorcycle event. YMC has been a long-time supporter of our event and friend, as was Jack. RIP to Jack and condolences to his friends and family.
May He Rest in Peace๐Ÿ™๐Ÿปโค๏ธ
