Yesterday at 12:27 PM, York Beach and York Village Fire Departments responded to a reported structure fire on Ocean Avenue. The first arriving unit (Car 1) reported smoke showing from a two-story motel and requested the first engine company to stretch a hose line to the second floor to begin suppression operations. The fire was quickly brought under control, resulting in minimal damage to the building and its contents. A total of 14 firefighters responded to this incident. The Ogunquit Fire Department provided station coverage while crews were operating on scene.

Yesterday’s response is a great reminder that York’s fire departments are combination departments made up largely of call firefighters who respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are incredibly thankful for these dedicated men and women who continue to provide prompt, professional service to our residents and visitors each and every day.
If you or someone you know lives in town and is interested in serving the community, the York Beach Fire Department is currently accepting applications for new call firefighter recruits. Whether you have prior experience or are new to the fire service, we would love to talk with you about the rewarding opportunities available.
To learn more or apply, email [email protected] or stop by the station to pick up an application.
