Due to a large number of ticks reported by users and Town staff, the Town will be treating the perimeter of the Bog Road Recreation Facility for ticks on Tuesday June 17th @ 6:30AM. The facility will be closed immediately following the application until the treatment is dry. The treatment is considered safe for human and pet contact immediately upon drying. Please observe posted signs and any direction from staff to stay off the facility during this brief time period.

While the Town does not routinely treat for ticks at this property, we do monitor tick levels and will treat only when necessary to protect public health. As you're likely aware, this year is a particularly nasty one for ticks, which increases the risk of tick-borne disease for facility users.

As my final post for the Town of York, I wanted to share a bit about myself, the person who has been running the Town’s Instagram and pages this summer. ☺️ Hello, my name is Sydney Tullai, and as the Town’s Public Relations/Marketing Intern, I was responsible for setting up, optimizing, and kickstarting social media efforts!

Because of my education in public relations, I believe in the importance of building relationships with those who hold a stake in your organization. These relationships should not just be limited to employees. They should also include acquaintances of the organization, competitors, and more. In our increasingly digitized world, social media is not just a tool but a powerful method for you to connect and engage with your community, and you have all played a crucial role in this.

I believe so strongly in the community of York that I reached out to my hometown government, asking for experience and offering my knowledge in the realm of communications. I feel so grateful to have been offered the hands-on experience of making these pages that share the history, current events, and landmarks of my home.

As I move back to Boston University to complete my final year of college, in the city where I hope to continue my professional endeavors, I will remember fondly how this internship has shaped me. I want to thank the Town office and all these pages’ followers for your support and engagement!

These pages will now exist as a vessel for the Town government to post on as they please, with assistance from the strategy I have drafted during my internship.

Recycling reduces waste from being buried in landfills. It also allows us to repurpose our waste into new products and preserve our natural resources. Let’s learn how to contribute to this critical effort!

York residents should recycle in bins 35 gallons or smaller. Recycling inside a bag will not be picked up! It is very important that all recycling set out for curbside pickup is clean & dry. This reduces odor & prevents contamination of other recyclable materials. Wet recycling is trash.

We recommend reviewing what can be recycled:
- Plastic bottles/containers
- Tin, aluminum, & steel cans (remove plastic cap on aerosol cans)
- Compacted aluminum foil
- Non-laminated paper
- Flattened cardboard & paperboard
- Plastic food tubs
- Glass bottles/jars with their lids

30% of the trash you put out for collection is food scraps. Diverting food scraps into compost increases soil carbon, in turn, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. When food scraps are disposed of in landfills, they release methane, a harmful greenhouse gas, as they decompose. There are three ways to compost: backyard, contracting with a service provider, or bring your scraps to the Witchtrot Facility.

Some items can’t be picked up curbside, but can be taken to the Witchtrot Recycling & Compost facility for recycling. The facility is open on Wednesdays & Saturdays, 9am - 4pm at 65 Witchtrot Road. Access requires the purchase of a $25 permit for residents & a $100 permit for businesses from the Clerk’s Office. Services offered on the property include:
- Waste oil & antifreeze disposal
- Planet Aid collection
- Grass, leaves, & plant clipping collection
- Propane tank & fire extinguisher disposal
- Scrap metal & appliance disposal
- Food composting

Some hazardous waste can be discarded at the Witchtrot Recycling & Compost Facility. Please see the website.

Lastly, Recycle Coach is an app that takes the stress out of recycling & offers valuable information. On the app, you can access pickup schedules, assistance in sorting your goods, & notifications of events. This app can help you prepare for weekly recycling beginning 10/7.
