Before TikTok, before Instagram, before the algorithm — there was radio. 📻
In 1976, Susquehanna Broadcasting produced An American Idea, a series of one-minute vignettes celebrating the U.S. Bicentennial, covering topics from the Articles of Confederation to the Battle of Gettysburg. Now, 50 years later, we've digitized our collection of 10 phonograph records from this production.

York County 4-Hers and their exchange group from Minnesota visited the History Center last week! These high school age students and their chaperones stepped back into the 18th century at our Colonial Complex. As shown in these photos no one is too old to try their hand at the Jacobs Ladder.

They continued their tour at the History Center Museum with an overview of the galleries and time to test their knowledge with a scavenger hunt. We are so glad they could kick off their exchange trip by visiting us!

Flag Day is celebrated every June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the United States flag by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

This flag is on display at the History Center Museum. It dates to the Civil War and was made by the Immell family of York County. It is believed the flag was buried to keep it safe from the Confederate army approaching in June 1863.
