York County's hospitality heritage just got a little more permanent, thanks to another round of generous donations from the community. Three recent acquisitions — the Modernaire Motel sign, original Modernaire building plans, and a rich trove of Yorktowne Hotel memorabilia and records — are now part of the History Center's Library & Archives and Collections holdings.
Thanks to the Lincoln Highway Association PA Chapter and generous donors, the History Center now has the beloved Modernaire neon sign on display at the Agricultural & Industrial Museum on Princess Street. Shortly after news coverage of the installation, a local architect contacted us to donate a set of original plans for the motel! And following its heavy involvement in restoring the theYorktowneHotel, the York County Economic Alliance donated several bins of memorabilia they used when doing research on the landmark business.
Now, the stories of both the Modernaire Motel and Yorktowne Hotel are better preserved for future generations.
