At 02:11 this morning, the York Village Fire Department and York Ambulance were dispatched to assist a lost and injured hiker on the trail system near Folly Pond.

Crews quickly assembled and, with the assistance of York Police Department officers and communications dispatchers, were able to successfully locate the individual.

Personnel provided patient care on scene and carried out a complex extrication from a wooded area. Despite challenging conditions, including darkness and difficult terrain, crews utilized rope rescue systems, coordinated manpower, and specialized equipment such as UTVs and ATVs to safely remove the patient.

This was an extended operation under the command of Chief Apgar.

Units responding included: C1, C2, C4, CAR 1, CAR 2, Squad 2, Rescue 1, Forestry 14, York Beach ATV, and Utility 2.

A total of 19 Fire and Ambulance personnel responded to the incident and or provided station coverage.

This incident highlights the strong coordination and teamwork among our town’s emergency services.

We also extend our appreciation to Kittery Engine 5 for providing additional station coverage during the incident.

Another great night of training for York Village Fire!

This evening, members took part in our weekly training, focusing on pump operations with an emphasis on both forward and reverse water supply techniques. While one group sharpened their skills on water supply, another crew trained at a separate location with Truck 8, working on ladder operations.

We had a strong turnout of 25 members, all dedicated to staying prepared and ready to serve our community.

This afternoon, our crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 1, just north of the Kittery line.

K4 Captain Hilton arrived first on scene and established command, reporting a single-vehicle accident involving a pick-up truck that struck a telephone pole. Fortunately, there were no injuries to the occupant.

Crews remained on scene to until CMP arrived.

It was a busy training week for the members of the York Village Fire Department.

During our regular Thursday night training, Firefighter/Paramedic Dufort reviewed key concepts and procedures for firefighter CPR.

On Saturday, we took advantage of the great weather for additional drills and hands-on training. Members came together to support our newest driver trainee, with Firefighter Aidan Martin performing several pump operation exercises on Engine 4.

Strong teamwork and dedication continue to keep our department ready to serve.

FREE PUPPIES at the firehouse!

Ok…now that we have your attention…there’s no free puppies. But, we do have an important public safety reminder to share.

We are STILL receiving phone calls directly to the firehouse requesting our services. It is imperative to understand that there is a good chance the phone will go unanswered due to the staff being out of the station. This could be problematic. And if you leave a voicemail (yes, that happens), it may go unchecked for longer than it takes your smoking wall outlet to turn into a full blown house fire.

York Dispatch is staffed 24/7 with at least two highly trained, very polite dispatchers to answer the phones. They can either be reached by dialing 911 or 207-363-4444.

So, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

If you smell gas, call 911.

If your elderly neighbor has fallen in their driveway, call 911.

If your carbon monoxide detector is beeping, call 911.

If your neighbor’s house is on fire, call 911.

If you have fallen in your garage and broken your leg and are home alone with three young children, don’t call your firefighter husband, call 911.

If you have an unknown wire hanging in your driveway, call 911.

If your snowblower is tired from all the snow this season and is now leaking gasoline, call 911.

If your basement is full of water, call 911.

If you’re heading to Portsmouth for a hot date and you think you left your outdoor grill on, call 911.

You get the point.

Listen, we get it. Our on-duty career staff are working all by themselves while the call-force members are at home with their families enjoying a bowl of ice cream watching Season 1 of Marshals, and they could probably use someone to talk to. It’s better to keep them company when you DON’T need their help though.

Funny story, we just got done approving the graphics package for our new Engine 2 and elected to forego the Dial 911 decal because after all, it is 2026 and 911 has been a thing since the early 1990’s. Don’t make us call the graphics guy back.

In all seriousness though, we want you to get the help you need as fast as possible. So please, utilize the system that is in place 24/7.

Oh, and sorry about the puppies.
