On This Day, August 28: The March on Washington

On August 28, 1963, an estimated 250,000 people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It remains one of the largest political rallies for civil rights in American history.

The march called for an end to segregation, fair wages, and equal protection under the law. It was there, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his most famous speech.

Less than a year later, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday afternoon for our 11th Annual Village Tea: “A Trip Through Marion’s Village” and the Marion Howard “It Takes A Village” Award Ceremony. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with fellowship, recognition, love, community, and amazing entertainment!
