WHO'S READY FOR THE ULTIMATE SUMMER READING SHOWDOWN?!

05/28/2026

Join us on Sunday, June 7th at 2PM at the Anna Bemis Palmer Museum (520 North Grant Avenue) for “Remember the Ladies” a free program about the Founding Mothers during the American Revolution. Humanities Nebraska Guest Speaker Janie York will explain how women of the era used ingenuity, creativity, and needlework to support the military cause. In the words of Abigail Adams to her husband John “Remember the Ladies.” In this program you’ll meet activists, impersonators, and seamstresses who advanced the war effort and, in some cases, helped change its course.

Janie York is a retired Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist. She is past President of the Nebraska Hearing Society and continues to advocate for quality hearing healthcare and consumer education. In her newfound free time Janie is once again able to enjoy her passions for quilting and other forms of textile art. She is an avid reader with women’s history, textile history and historical fiction as genres of choice. She enjoys camping and hiking with her husband and their grandchildren.

This presentation was developed in partnership with Nebraska Public Media as part of its engagement initiatives around “The American Revolution,” the highly anticipated new documentary from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt. The documentary premiered on November 16, 2025, and activities continue through July 2026 in commemoration of America 250.

Humanities Nebraska (HN) provides major funding for this program. HN receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and private donations.
