Key Facts About Pool Algae:

The Primary Cause: Algae blooms are almost always triggered by a lack of proper sanitizer (like chlorine) or imbalanced water (especially high pH or stabilizer levels).

Not Just Green: While standard green algae is the most common, pools can also suffer from yellow/mustard algae (which is chlorine-resistant) and black algae (which embeds itself into concrete and has a tough, protective barrier).

Early Warning Signs: Before a pool turns visibly green, early indicators include cloudy or hazy water, unexpectedly dropping chlorine levels, a rising pH, and slippery/slimy walls or floors.

Rapid Reproduction: Algae use photosynthesis to grow. 🌞 In the right conditions, certain types can replicate every few hours, quickly overwhelming a clean pool.

Health and Equipment Risks: Algae blooms make surfaces dangerously slippery and create a breeding ground for bacteria and insects. Furthermore, they can clog pool filters and plumbing.

Prevention is Routine: Keeping a consistent sanitizer level (1-3 ppm for free chlorine), brushing the pool walls regularly, and running the filtration system are the best ways to stop spores from taking hold.
