An ambulance is easy to overlook when life is normal β€” but unforgettable when minutes matter.

Most of us do not think about an ambulance until the moment someone we love needs one.

But emergency readiness begins long before a 911 call. It depends on reliable vehicles, trained EMS professionals, life-saving equipment, medical supplies, oxygen, communication systems, and the constant behind-the-scenes work required to keep York Ambulance Association Inc. ready for our community.

For more than 50 years, York Ambulance has answered the call for our neighbors, families, friends, visitors, businesses, and community events. Now, we are working toward the purchase of a much-needed new ambulance.

A fully equipped ambulance now costs approximately $450,000 β€” and that cost represents far more than a vehicle. It represents dependable emergency response, modern safety features, critical medical equipment, and the tools our EMS professionals need when minutes matter most.

This effort is not about fear. It is about readiness, responsibility, and protecting the community we all share.

Every donation helps move York Ambulance closer to this critical purchase. Whether you give personally, share this post, or encourage a local business to become a sponsor, your support makes a meaningful difference.

When you give, you are helping protect a neighbor in crisis, support the EMS professionals who answer the call, and strengthen the safety of our town.

πŸš‘ National EMS Week | May 17–23, 2026
β€œImproving Outcomes, Together”

This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate York Ambulance Association for more than 50 years of dedicated service to the York community.

For over five decades, York EMS professionals have answered the call when our residents, visitors, families, businesses, and neighbors needed help most. Often, they arrive during some of life’s most frightening moments β€” when someone cannot breathe, when chest pain becomes urgent, when a fall changes everything, when an accident happens without warning, or when a family is standing in fear and uncertainty.

What arrives with York Ambulance is far more than an ambulance.

It is skilled emergency medical care.
It is rapid assessment and clinical judgment.
It is calm communication under pressure.
It is compassion in the middle of crisis.
It is the ability to bring order, treatment, and reassurance to moments most people are not prepared to face.

EMS providers are trained to make critical decisions in unpredictable environments, often before a patient ever reaches the hospital. They treat, stabilize, comfort, coordinate, and protect β€” not only with medical skill, but with the emotional steadiness required to care for people on what may be one of the hardest days of their lives.

This year’s EMS Week theme, β€œImproving Outcomes, Together,” is a powerful reminder that emergency care is a community effort. Strong outcomes depend on trained EMS professionals, effective dispatch, public safety partners, hospitals, community education, bystander action, and the support of the people they serve.

To every EMT, paramedic, crew member, and emergency medical professional who has served York for the past 50+ years: thank you.

Thank you for your skill.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Thank you for the long shifts, missed holidays, difficult calls, quiet acts of compassion, and the strength it takes to keep showing up.

Please join us in honoring York Ambulance during National EMS Week. Our community is safer, stronger, and better cared for because of their service.

πŸ’™ Happy EMS Week, York Ambulance Association. We see you. We appreciate you. And we thank you.

πŸš‘ We've Always Shown Up for You. Now We're Asking You to Show Up for Us.
For years, York Ambulance has been there.

At 3 AM when the chest pains started.
On the side of the road after the accident.
In the living room when a loved one collapsed.
At the ballfield, the worksite, the nursing home, the front porch.

Whenever York called, we answered. Every time. No exceptions.

Today, we're the ones making the call β€” and we're asking our community to answer.

Here's where we stand:

Our ambulance is well past its retirement years, and the cost of keeping it running is no longer sustainable. The math simply doesn't work in our favor:

πŸ”Ή Cost to respond to a call: $1,900
πŸ”Ή What we're reimbursed: $494 (only 26%)
πŸ”Ή Shortfall per call: $1,406 β€” or 100% when there's no transport

We've stretched every dollar. We've made every repair. We've done everything we can to keep serving this community without asking for help.

Now, we need to ask.

A few things worth knowing:

York Ambulance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We are not funded by the town, the hospital, or the fire department. We operate thanks to the generosity of the neighbors we serve β€” people like you.

Your donation helps us:
βœ… Bring in a new, reliable ambulance
βœ… Cover fuel, maintenance, and medical supplies
βœ… Support our trained crews and keep them ready
βœ… Make sure someone always answers when York calls

Every contribution matters:

πŸ’™ $25 helps fuel a response
πŸ’™ $100 helps restock life-saving supplies
πŸ’™ $500 moves us closer to a new ambulance
πŸ’™ Any amount is 100% tax-deductible

We've spent years being there for our neighbors. If we've ever helped you, a family member, or someone you love β€” this is your chance to give back.

We're not too proud to ask. We're just proud to serve.

Thank you, York. We're grateful for this community β€” and we're hopeful you'll stand with us now.

βœ… FACT: York Ambulance is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) emergency medical service.

We understand the confusion.

York Ambulance works side-by-side with York Hospital, fire, police, dispatch, the Town of York, and local public safety partners.

In an emergency, the response looks connected β€” because it is.

But the funding is not.

York Ambulance is:

❌ Not part of York Hospital
❌ Not the York Fire Department
❌ Not a municipal department

York Ambulance is grateful for the financial support provided by the Town of York. That support matters and reflects an important recognition of the ambulance service’s role in local public safety.

But it is only one piece of a much larger financial challenge.

Even with town support, York Ambulance must absorb substantial gaps created by:

πŸš‘ Under-reimbursed calls
🚨 Non-transport responses
πŸ“‹ Unpaid balances
β›½ Rising fuel and supply costs
πŸ› οΈ Aging vehicles and repairs
πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Staffing and training
πŸ₯ The daily cost of staying ready

When costs rise, reimbursements fall short, or an ambulance needs major repairs, that financial burden does not simply disappear.

It stays with York Ambulance.

And still, they answer.

For chest pain.
For crashes.
For falls.
For breathing emergencies.
For the call your family hopes never to make.

🚨 Essential does not mean automatically funded.

Right now, community support is critical β€” especially as York Ambulance works toward replacing an aging ambulance.

Your gift helps keep lifesaving care ready, staffed, equipped, and on the road.

πŸš‘ When York calls, York Ambulance answers.
πŸ’› Now York can answer back.

When you or someone you love dials 911, you expect help to arrive. Fast. Reliable. Ready.

But right now, York Ambulance is in a dire financial crisis β€” and the truth is hard to share:

➑️ Every call we respond to costs $1,900
➑️ We're only reimbursed 26% ($494)
➑️ That leaves us $1,406 in the red per call β€” or 100% when no transport is needed

Our current ambulance should have been retired years ago. Rising repair costs are draining the very funds we need to keep our community safe.

We are a NON-PROFIT 501(c)(3) β€” completely separate from the town, hospital, and fire department. We rely on neighbors like you.

πŸ’™ Here's what your donation does:
βœ”οΈ Helps bring in a new, reliable ambulance
βœ”οΈ Covers rising fuel, maintenance & medical supplies
βœ”οΈ Supports payroll and insurance for our crews
βœ”οΈ Ensures someone answers the call when you need it most

Imagine the moment you need us. The seconds that matter. The siren you're praying to hear.

That siren only sounds if our community steps up today.

Your gift β€” $10, $50, $500, or more β€” is 100% tax-deductible and goes directly toward saving lives in York.
